I don't mind Steeleye Span. Well, I don't have anything against them. Bought one single of theirs a long time ago. Mid-70's probably. Called Thomas the Rhymer. Obviously before his more famous brother, the tank engine pitched up But merry old England isn't really my thing. Let's just say I don't feel any association with it. I shouldn't think too many from London or Newcastle do either. Schoolboy error, mate - if they were brothers they'd have the same surname, not first name. No need for thanks! I echo what you say about Newcastle though. First time I heard All Around My Hat I recognised the 12 bar rhythm and wondered what Quo could make of it. Many years later they did a version which was far too nice. Like so many cover versions back then e.g. Once Bitten (great song, terrible non-commital version), I Knew The Bride (great song, terrible clean nice version).

A lot of credit needs to go to the producer for making it sound fresh and both up to date and from the 70s! And to the band for letting him!
Quo should've got this guy.

All we need now is the 50th Anniversary Vinyl.....Remixed/Remastered......Out-Takes & Live Recording from the Hello Tour. Why on earth would we want it remixed? How could the mix be changed and still maintain the essence of 3 blokes sat in a circle in chairs not worried about spill, etc. Don't friggin' touch it!!!! It's perfect!!!!! Have I taken your comment too seriously

The front cover of the magazine has the Hello cover on it with the background gold rather than black. Big article too. I haven't read it yet but it promises stories about how everything clicked but there were problems too.
Probably nothing new for most of us but good to see Quo getting some respect.

You can actually see on the grooves what type of song it is going to be. Backwater had a tightly packed bunch at the start and then a space for the quiet build up. The groove pattern on Mystery Song was big indicator of what was on the way. This is exactly what confused me when I bought Just Supposin' all those years ago and sat in the bus on the way home looking at the grooves of Rock 'n' Roll - I remember thinking "that's gonna be a Quo classic last track but the grooves really look like it's a slow one? Can't be!" In fact, we wrote a song partly about it and I re-enacted that scene - although I examined all of my new albums in this way (and people on the bus must have thought wtf) Just Supposin' stands out in the memory for just that reason. This was all part of the ritual lost when we moved to CD, though I must say I'm one of those who prefers CD sound quality - not clicks or scratches which were a real problem in the 70s.

Look, this isn't just an excuse to crow over Newcastle 4 PSG 1 but I thought Quo fans would find it interesting to know that Newcastle fans have adapted RAOTW as a chant in very justified support of the manager and head coach and the work they've done at the club: I like it, I like it, I la la la, la la la, Here we go - o Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall Heard over the last few games and will be heard much more following the PSG result.. Howay the Lads

Does anyone know where I could get a midi file (preferably free) for Rock 'n' Roll, please? I really only want the drums but can't find the full file anywhere.
Cheers

My favourite Quo song and a great, great rock song full stop. Rick at the start of the video in full open shirt, rock god mode is brilliant!

I've taken all of the songs released by Quo in the 21st Century and played live from the Now Hear Live albums, done a touch of mastering to get them sounding consistent and mixed the audience reactions together to give a live album. It's actually pretty good to the extent that if I saw a new band playing this set list I would investigate further. Pretty rocky! Here's what I have: 1. Let's Rock 2. All Stand Up 3. Rock'n'Roll'n'You 4. Solid Gold 5. The Oriental (I know, I know but it has to be there - it's not it's fault it outstayed it's welcome! ) 6. Creepin' Up On You 7. Looking Out For Caroline 8. Go Go Go 9. Two Way Traffic 10. Beginning of the End 11. Bellavista Man 12. The Party Ain't Over Yet 13. Rock and Roll Music/Bye Bye Johnny (21st Century performance - it's not unreasonable to end on a cover)
