If I had to choose a top Quo song, this would one of the main contenders. A storming classic!
I recall Lemmy praising this one years back as an example of a perfect rock'n'roll track.
The arrangement, the wonderful intro, and the pildriving rhythmm. Perfectamundo!

I thought the original album track was fabulous, but didn't think the single version did it enough justice. It didn't display the full magnitude of the song and the permanently underrated talent of the band in putting it together. 10cc and Queen are getting to no.1 with I'm Mandy Fly Me and Bohemian Rhapsody respectively, but Quo's track was butchered. I thought the same with Living On An Island, which had possibly the best outro they've ever come up with. Still, maybe I'm being picky. I loved the video. Rick in all his pomp

I will be slightly contradictory on this, Mystery Song is among my favourite ever singles, on some day, maybe THE favourite, yet, compared to the album version, it does pale in comparison. The full version not being issued as a single was a missed opportunity, I think it would have done far better in the charts. One thing that interests me is whether the main body of the song, the "single", had the beginning and end movements added or the single was extrapolated and looped and faded to create an outro. I'm off for a coffee and to ponder the meaning of life. Quo were totally awesome between 70 and 76. But Mystery Song to RAOTW in two singles?

My favourite Quo song and a great, great rock song full stop. Rick at the start of the video in full open shirt, rock god mode is brilliant!

We just didn't know it. I suspect the single was looped and faded but it certainly seemed like a missed opportunity. How many times have we said that?

Classic Quo. Got everything about Quo from the mid 70’s era. Just a shame we never got the full version live.
