For Aquostic Quo did EXACTLY the same shows (including playing live on the One Show/Ken Bruce/Radio 2 In Concert/and Hyde Park coming up) as Jeff Lynnes ELO did, yet everyone on here applauded them!
Radio 2 is the ONLY National Radio Station that supports the older artists, because of that it is 100% logical for them to do the things they do, how on earth can you have a problem with that?
I don't think there was/is anything wrong with the promo slots. Just the artwork. I don't agree with the manner in which Radio 2 choose which singles Quo release. Let's put it that way. Neither do I think most of their choices have been up to much. Better Than That Movin' On The Winner Looking Out For Caroline Paper Plane (Aquostic) Break The Rules (Aquostic) Terrible. Not one of them caused a spike in album sales. Far better options out there that were commercial enough and would have benefited the band's reputation more. E.g. Dust To Gold, Fiji Time, Nanana, Don't Drive My Car. The lead tracks that were chosen as 'singles' from Aquostic were 'And It's Better Now', & 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men' both of which received extensive TV and radio play, these were the two that were used primarily to promote the album.
The lead tracks from QPQ were Rock N Roll And You, Two Way Traffic, & Lets Rock.
From Bula Quo (bad that it was) it was the title track.
To them get other tracks played on national radio from an album that has already given two or three lead tracks (or singles, though really they don't exist anymore) is a MASSIVE achievement and a testimony as to high a regard a band is held in.
Name any other band that has had more than three tracks lifted from an album and played regularly on national radio.
The only mistake Radio 2 have made is referring to tracks like 'The Winner' as 'singles' when they are simply tracks from an album and not physically released as such.
I agree with you on the artwork which has been pretty shit of late, BUT you don't play the sleeve.

I would take up your challenge but as I have never listened to Radio 2, I haven't a clue. I don't doubt that the first Aquostic album was well marketed and a success. Most Quo hit packages have been. Because that's how it was sold. And good on them.

The tracks I listed were singles. A video for Let's Rock was made, but there wasn't a promo disc for it. The Winner had a new 'Podium Mix', which was sent to radio stations. For the singles I listed to get played, Quo would have been in negotiation with Radio 2. I honestly think the alternatives I mention are far better than what was released. There aren't any other artists that have been played as regularly by Radio 2. While it may seem like a massive achievement, I don't agree. Too many coincidences elsewhere. I'll shut up now.

Dust to Gold and Fiji Time would have been excellent choices. Two completely different songs, but I think both show the best of modern Quo from one side of the spectre to another.
Also as very different songs, they could have both been very "radio friendly" as well

Well yes I definitely agree, I would too - alongside DTG its my favourite song from QPQ. I didn't include FH (or any other) because I was responding to the songs suggested in the earlier post

Most definitely not. He sings most of the songs, he is the frontman and therefore the main center of attention. His personality has been crucial to the band's recorded output and their live shows. And so to follow up ? Why is it ok to book gigs without Rick ? Do you know the story of the band Stretch? (A band that Jeff Rich played in for some time, coincidentally...)

It's a great story and shows how far you can take a band name, and how far you can't. Had you asked me a few years ago I couldn't have imagined the band going on stage without Rick, but they've done it and since it has 'worked' in their eyes, they see nothing wrong with doing it again. I'm not sure how happy Rick is about realizing that his presence/absence doesn't seem to make much difference to the majority of the audience. Maybe this is the point at which he has to realize that this is what you get for appealing to 'casual' fans rather than the hardcore fanbase.

I think it's OK for them to go on stage without Rick.
I've been watching them without Alan for 30 years.
It's absolutely no different.

I saw CQ maybe a dozen times between 1986 and the early 90s then gave up on them. I saw the FF in 2013 and 2014 and my passion was renewed, although I still had and have no interest whatsoever in CQ so I couldn't care less who is or isn't on stage. Unless, of course, it's the FF.

In theory not really, but since it obviously works somehow, the point is moot. Besides, who cares about my opinion anyway - it won't change a thing whether I condone it or not. If they had never changed their lineup since 1977, it would be an entirely different question.

Me too. I stopped seeing them after 1994, until 2001. At that gig, there was Rossi, Parfitt, Edwards, Letley and Hirsh - it was a different band to the last time I had seen them and yet they were still called Status Quo.

Fair enough. Each to their own. Id question it works. But your opinion is as valuable as anyone elses.
