But do you think they can perform without Francis. They know they can't PF. They did cancel the Ingleston gig in Edinburgh last year 'cos Francis was ill. We were all gutted as we missed out on the camping. Was there camping? Why did nobody tell me?

They can't. However that is considered a normal risk - anything might happen to anybody and they'd have to cancel a gig. Insurances have to live with that. They won't cover up for somebody who has obvious health problems. That's not my question. Are they Status Quo without Francis ? Cos to me without Rick they aren't whatever the ins and outs of insurance. Most definitely not. He sings most of the songs, he is the frontman and therefore the main center of attention. His personality has been crucial to the band's recorded output and their live shows.

They haven't 'booked' any gigs expecting to perform without Rick. Any gigs that have been announce since Rick has been ill have been announced with the expectation that he will be recovered and playing.
They are currently performing at bookings they were already CONTRACTED to perform at before Rick had his heart attack, they have been in the diary for a good while.
That said, I (like many others) am getting a bit less understanding of their position given the total lack of updates on Ricks recovery - it would be nice of the management to give maybe a monthly update, they don't have to go into details but simply something to reassure fans that his recovery is going in the right direction.
Not too much to ask really particularly given the endless updates of how well the summer gigs are going that are being posted on Facebook.
The only update (and it was an un-official one) was from Johnny Walker of Radio 2 last Sunday who said Rick was recovering well whilst 'staying with friends in London'.

Music industry..Music business.Hungry bands are the best bands and in every single case it's a let down when staleness/boredom/wealth creeps in.BFY was high water for Status Quo just as Exile On Main Street was for the Stones and I'm sure board members on here are switched on to every other bands "never be as good again" moment...it's then, when the hunger has gone,it becomes a business.

So the Union Chapel gig has been announced and Rick will not be appearing. Announced long after his illness. No one can claim this is down to insurance. Its down to them booking a gig without #Rick.

No, you're right, its not been announced. I think its a warm-up gig for Hyde Park which will be the first time the Aquostic line-up will have played in a while. I know that they did a private warm-up before the Roundhouse last year because they told us at the gig. So members of the fan-club were offered the chance to buy tickets for a relatively small venue, Union Chapel in Islington. Tickets aren't even on sale on the venue website or on Quo's fb page.

Indeed in this thread we have Black Sabbath, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was the high mark. Deep Purple's was Machine Head, Queen's News of the World. Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti, ACDC, Back In Black. The Who, Quadrophenia.

I have just done a lot of digging around on the net to find details of this un-announced gig, having found it I see it is on September the 9th; now the last Rick update only said they were using substitutes for July and August, that being the case has it actually been announced to the fan club saying Rick will not be playing?

Yes, I gather it was announced then that Rick was not playing. I am not a fan club member but a friend who is contacted me about going and that's when I learned this. btw - are tickets now on general sale?

Yes, I gather it was announced then that Rick was not playing. I am not a fan club member but a friend who is contacted me about going and that's when I learned this. btw - are tickets now on general sale? So from that then I suppose it's safe to assume that Rick isn't playing the Hyde Park gig then. Having not played acoustically for over a year it's logical for them to play an 'under the radar' warm up BEFORE playing live on national radio and the red button.
Given they wouldn't pull out of Hyde Park (old problem of commitments/contracts, etc again) they are caught in a bit of a dilemma as to a warm up without Rick.
The bottom line really is (and I said this before though PF chose not to pick up on it, preferred to find the bit in the post to argue about instead) is:
MANAGEMENT NEED TO POST PROPER UPDATES ON RICKS RECOVERY!
This is what the fans would prefer to see rather than pictures of summer gigs, gig announcements, sponsorship of bottles of beer, books, etc, etc. - just TELL US HOW RICK IS DOING !!

Yes, @billybragg I should have been more specific. Fan club also told members that Rick would not be play at Hyde Park either.
