I wonder why such mixes never made it to the Deluxe, if they are official. I think frozenhero did the tracklistings for that batch; Blue For You, Just Supposin' & Never Too Late. He won't have been aware of Alt. Mixes as far as I know, and I didn't come into the mix until late 2017, around the time of the Live At The N.E.C. Deluxe release. There's also Alt. Mixes for Riverside, Something 'Bout You Baby I Like and possibly an unreleased track or 2 from those sessions. I'd have to go back and check. I think there's also a copy of Rock n' Roll that runs out to a long echo I would be VERY interested in those !!

I'm not sure that there is the same impetus for IYCSTH. Some (most?) fans want some of the embellishments removed but there isn't the push from the producer/engineer (see above), vinyl quality and song quantity couldn't be blamed for the sound, and the Deluxe opportunity has been missed - this would need a full release! As John (Eden) was the engineer and having a chat with him and he DOES want to do a remix, I might say he's got a lot to say and wants to show that it could be a better one than the orriginal. If John was not in to doing it, I trust him that it would not benefit to the orriginal. Seeing and hearing what he did to RAOTW, me thinks it would be a hard rocking album in the (remix) end. I, personaly, loved to see the videos of the remix process with the indepth memories, like Rocker's Rollin'and the emotions it brought up to John. Still, we need someone to contact Universal. Even if it takes 2 years to be published. Mate, I tried to push that, back in 2016 already! I had just started to get in touch with Steve Hammonds and started this thread: statusquo.boards.net/thread/1842/buy-remix-stand-heatHowever, given how much time it took for the RAOTW remix to get sorted out, it seems like they wanted to get done with the other albums on the quick. In fact, I wanted to bring the idea up again and included a remix of three or four tracks (Again and Again, Oh What a Night, Long Legged Linda and of course the complete Accident Prone) as possibilities in some future anthology... under the assumption that there wouldn't be any interest [from Universal's side] in a remix of the full album, which could be difficult to release with no remaster to tie it to. However, given the overwhelming response of this thread, I think I'm going to lobby for it again. The 1979 live recordings could just as well be bundled with it. (...although the idea of the anthology still makes sense to me - and if multitracks of earlier stuff exist too, I think remixing key tracks to improve the sonics would still be a viable possibility. I'm especially thinking of 4500x from Hello! - which has never sounded that great to me - and Slow Train.) gav I get what you're saying, hence my suggestion to remix only a few tracks. But I do think that the "Aphex Aural Exciter" device slapped onto the final mix overloaded the sound a bit, coupled with the keyboards. Having something a bit more basic-sounding could be interesting IMO. I wonder why such mixes never made it to the Deluxe, if they are official. Moreover, I did mention those alternate takes to Steve (although the rest of what you're mentioning is new to me). Imagine my bewilderment when I saw the final tracklisting! I only started making complete lists after that, and exactly for that reason. One might argue I didn't really do a much better job either - bringing you into the fold was probably my best move, in all honesty...

According to John Eden, John (Coghlan) is on Riverside. It's just that Francis and John Eden overdubbed some drum samples trying to improve it, eventually turning it into a sonic mess. Yeah, I'd like a remix of that track.

frozenhero Wasn't too sure on when you came into the mix I always thought the Frantic Four lineup should have remixed the albums together with past producers when they initially got back together. John Eden was already working on RAOTW, but it would have been great to go back to the very beginning and remix the older stuff up until Never Too Late. I think Bob Young actually helped with the early Deluxe releases, hence the bootleg recordings included as Steve told me it was Bob that supplied those. Another reason as to why 2 tracks are wrongly dated on the Blue For You deluxe. 2 are labelled as coming from Stoke-On-Trent 2nd March 1975, but are from Stafford Bingley Hall, 7th March 1976. I'd say they'd be better off remixing the whole of the Heat album, as opposed to individual tracks, as they would have to bake and digitise all the reels from those sessions anyway. I know there's an Alt take for Forty Five Hundred Times from the Hello! sessions, not sure on album multitrack reels however... There's still reels from the Dog album, but it depends on what sort of condition those are in these days. Would love to know if the multitracks from the POMM, Spare Parts & Ma Kellys albums exist, and again the state they're in. Cheers

Alternate take of 4500x is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for when the deluxe edition was imminent... Yeah, I did tell Steve a few things before BFY/JS/NTL but it wasn't fully-fledged tracklists and I suppose Bob was mainly responsible for the outcome; not sure my input was taken too seriously back then. Afterwards you could say they were taken too seriously... i.e. some of them were just drafts that were cleared before some of the material could be sourced, which led to all kinds of complications... By the way - I know it doesn't entirely fit but I think I should mention that I'll be making posts on the deluxe editions on my new blog: jesters-jetsetters.blogspot.com

Deluxe Release, mainly due to the lack of bonus content... albeit there isn't much from that period they could have included, but still, 4 versions of Caroline!! Big shame the band didn't buy the multitrack reels of their Reading Festival performance back in '73 as that would have been great bonus content. Not too keen at all on the Bonus Content for those early deluxe releases. They could have included the Paris Hippodrome Radio Broadcast on the Never Too Late Deluxe. Pretty Much the full show from Don't Drive My Car onwards, just missing Forty Five Hundred Times. Wouldn't have been hard to contact the radio station and get a copy of the broadcast master. In regards to the upcoming Deluxe Editions, Victor I was wondering if we could have an album of the month type thread for the 3 albums for them to be reviewed along with the bonus content... B-Sides // Outtakes // Live Tracks etc. Edit; Just emailed RTL France Radio in hopes that they still have the 1981 gig on a broadcast master reel. Cheers

Interesting idea, but I suspect the only one who would have been likely to get on board would be Alan. Even one of them involved would have been interesting. Just listening again to the John Eden remix of Rockin' All Over The World & agree with the popular view that it's better, generally. However, it dawned on me that my point of reference for these late '70s albums is the studio output prior to Live!, whereas John Eden only came on board from this album onward. It may be that to his ears the remix is now more Quo when compared to Whatever You Want or Just Supposin', which is a very different point of reference to my ears.

Jeez - I gotta say 'Thanks' to all you folks who have 'contacts' etc, for trying to get this stuff released - especially the older FF things. Keep up the excellent work people, some of us really do appreciate it! G

I love the Heat album as it is but would gladly like to hear a remix, would like to hear remixes of any albums to be honest, wouldn't do any harm.

I think SBYBIL is another one of those. IIRC, John looks confused throughout the music promo as I think most of the kit fills were triggered / sequenced and not done by John himself, like the fills in Riverside.

Do you think putting the IYCSTH remix (if it should materialize) and the 1979 live recordings into one package might be a viable solution? They could call it "If You Can't Stand the Heat... Revisited" or something of that ilk... (I remember that this was the format that people had also clamored for the RAOTW remix, but because it was tied to the remaster of the main album, that didn't happen.)

Thought some of you may like to know that John Eden has been working with a band called the Poppy Jasper Band.
There are a few clips on YouTube and on their facebook page. Their first single with John is 'Mississippi Delta'. Worth checking out. An earthy sounding band with an ear for a melody. John has nailed the guitar and bass sounds in particular.
Over 4000 streams on Spotify already, not bad for an unsigned and relatively unknown band.
