Hmm, don't really see the point, although they have tried to recreate the original more faithfully than the live version with only slight hints of piano here and there.
The bass seems quite far down in the mix though.
But, for me, the original is legend and I'll always go back to that. This is not only an odd recording but also seems an odd release for those 'streaming platforms'. If you're going to go to the trouble of doing something like this, why not just record something new? Thought I'd post this again but with new production values. See if you can pick up slight nuances here and there that distinguish it from the original. I couldn't leave out the keyboard or I'd never have been able to type it so, in that sense, there had to be similarities Does anyone prefer it to the original? I think it's a little louder myself but it might depend what you're viewing it on.

I'm by no means a new line-up hater - I quite enjoy Backbone - but that openning guitar riff is tinny, thin, electronic and terrible sounding. Play it back to back with the original on YouTube (to eliminate any variable there) and you hear how organic the original was. This sounds like it is being played through a poor quality amp emulator. It sounds like it did the first (and only) time I saw Quo without Rick. Regardless of the arrangement or nuances within the version, I couldn't listen to it because that version of one of the greatest intros in rock sets my teeth on edge.
Not only pointless, but damaging.

I wouldn't go that far, but it's true that Richie's sound has less bite, or, to put it differently, seems to rely on more distortion to get the bite. Having said that I was also not a real fan of how ludicrously overblown the riff had become in the later days with Rick, compared to the pretty cute sounding Hello! original.

Not in the eyes of 99% of the people who pay for tickets and go to gigs and festivals now. They wouldn't even recognize a photo of Rick, Alan and John, let alone know who they are by name. As far as the public are concerned Francis is Quo.

Quo brand damaged beyond repair is absolute bollox. They still command and get respect from huge audiences at festivals etc…. YouTube doesn’t lie. Quo are absolutely still a draw. And good on em. Who wouldn’t enjoy being in their shoes.?

About being a draw opinions vary. Only recently they played a festival in the neighbourhood with co headliners The Beach Boys. I read some reviews, nothing interesting, as the writers didn't know enough of old/modern Quo. The organiser complained as he had thought Quo and the BB would attract more punters.

The version is alright, nontheless unneccessary, but the intro is piss poor (sounding)...
