Guitars sounding as dry as ever... biggest gripe with digital recording - no ambience whatsoever

Guitars sounding as dry as ever... biggest gripe with digital recording - no ambience whatsoever That's a good way of putting it.

Hmm, don't really see the point, although they have tried to recreate the original more faithfully than the live version with only slight hints of piano here and there.
The bass seems quite far down in the mix though.
But, for me, the original is legend and I'll always go back to that. This is not only an odd recording but also seems an odd release for those 'streaming platforms'. If you're going to go to the trouble of doing something like this, why not just record something new?

It sounds like Appollo 440’s Stop the Rock at the start

I think it’s mainly for them mimimg on telly eg This Morning etc so that they are playing to a performance the whole band are on

Guitars sounding as dry as ever... biggest gripe with digital recording - no ambience whatsoever I'm not sure this is down to digital so much as to the general disappearance of old-fashioned recording studios. And you can certainly add ambience with some reverb. For whatever reason, Quo have shied away from that for several years. I remember putting some reverb on Heavy Traffic songs and they immediately sounded livelier.

Ruined my day that has. Cheers.
That sounds like a tribute band...The sound on Francis' guitar sounds like someone playing through a practice amp.
Of course people are going to compare it to the original, the FF, and the opening especially to Rick. For that alone, it's a pretty stupid thing to do
As it is, sounds like a wedding band

Caroline? Is that a new track? Strange but the name rings a bell. Are we sure they haven't performed or recorded that song before? Maybe as a one off somewhere? It must be on a bootleg from an obscure gig back in the mid 70's or something. It does sound like something Rossi/Young would have composed. Vaguely familiar or perhaps it just sounds like all the other songs they have produced.
Anyhow, its a quite a good number and could probably catch on if it got a bit of airplay. Shame we'll probably never hear it again though. Forever banished to the world of those rare tracks that 'didn't quite make the cut'.
Thanks for sharing.

On the plus side, the guitars are really to the fore on their version

Royalties? This version can be used for adverts, or in other media, with less or nothing going to the estates of Rick and Alan, and whatever Spud gets, if anything, from legacy recordings. Just guessing.

Just guessing. Sadly, that makes sense. Royalties from the recording would now go to current band members instead. Thanks for all your comments, I'll pass on listening to this one.

They have some form here of course with re-recordings on Riffs, and putting Tommy on two albums, but you do wonder, besides royalties, what's the point
It sounds fine, a re-recording. Rhythm section could be louder but good dynamics overall. It doesnt have the raucous abandon of the original, of course, and I'd always choose the original. Strange hearing Caroline without Parfitts engine room.
