199? - Unreleased Re-recording (remixed and released in 2013 as the "Bula Edit") 2002 - RIFFS Re-recording I thought those were the same. (I never bothered with Riffs, so never compared.)

The person that mixed this should get fired. I'm sorry if you're in here.

Guitars sounding as dry as ever... biggest gripe with digital recording - no ambience whatsoever I don't think it sounds bad. Just don't like the drums, as they are too dry and seem to be missing some ambiance (going by how the cymbals are so low, I'd say it needs more overheads in the mix or a room mic). And I wouldn't blame digital on the guitars sound. It's always a production decision; it's not because it was recorded digitally that it sounds bad; it's because they record it directly to the mixing table or something. The way you're saying it seems it's due to being a digital recording.

This is how a re-recording should sound this sounds just as good as the original if not better. Quo's Caroline 2022 version is piss poor in comparison

Thanks for sharing! Nice performance and mix, but I still prefer the original. Nonetheless, very good! I also quite like Scorpion's Comeblack re-recordings. Lots of power.

I thought about royalties, but I wondered if it had to do with performance royalties expiring. That changed sometime over the last few years, and I have entirely lost count. Book authors do something similar, a new edition, an update, if there are any copyright uncertainties. We are surely going to see all kinds of strange backflips from our classic heroes as time goes by and the industry changes. Unless the projected recession undermines the business so badly that everything goes pear shaped. (But it has survived the last few crises.)

Google search brought up "Cliff's Law - The legislation – known as "Cliff's law" after its most high-profile campaigner – extends copyright on music recordings from 50 years to 70 years. Copyright on many of the most popular 60s tunes, including many Dame Shirley Bassey hits, had been due to expire within two years but will now last until at least 2033." Caroline is nowhere near even the 50 years age anyway, I mean.....oh....wait.....

Um yes I thought the rights ran for 40 years, counted up on my fingers since Caroline came out and realised I had lost track ... I think they changed it to 50, but I am not sure I knew they had upgraded it to 70. That explains why I couldn't find the older figures. I must remember "Clilff's Law" - the name will always get it. (Is there a law against BBC helicopters harassing people on insider police information? If so they will have to call it "Cliff's Law 2" or something.)
Of course in the wider field most copyright now comes under the "Mickey Mouse Law" and it's the REAL Mickey Mouse ... nobody takes that name in vain any more!

PS I think the version is OK, it's more like the current (ish) live version, but not actually sounding live ... It's muddy compared to the original, but I'm only nearing it through my worstest laptop speakers.
