I've read all the forums about Rick's health and possible retirement and others about possible replacements, I've seen both Freddie and Richie twice over the summer with Quo and I have to say Richie blew me away, he really understands that vintage Parfitt sound and wasn't galloping through intro's a la Rossi and more importantly he was into the music and engaging with the crowd and the band unlike Freddie. He also has a great singing voice himself so could if given the chance take over Rick's vocals sparing us the ghastly Rhino caterwauling. In a perfect world things wouldn't change but health and age have caught up with Alan and Rick and we have to ask what's more important, some kind of lost 70's purity or the chance to still hear some truly classic rock live? I think the attached photos shine a light on a possible future for electric Quo if we give it a chance and get behind Richie. You have got to be joking about this being '...a possible future for electric Quo'? It would just be a continuation of one of hundreds of tribute bands and NOT Quo. The 'other' lighter web site is full of comments along the lines of: it is a pity about Rick but at least good hearted Francis is carrying on to earn money to give to Rick and at the end of the day 'Quo' does not need Rick and can still be Quo without him and wondering how anyone could think otherwise and if they do they are stuck in the past, stuck in the 1970's. Now that Rick is gone they are saying it is development and good to change and move on and discard what has become of no use for whatever reason even if it was an essential part of the classic formal and what made it 'unique' in the first place. It is strange how fickle people can be. I am personally dumfounded by these opinions. They seem to be veering on the view that if one of the Everly brothers played it would still be The Everly Brothers, if either Art or Simon played it would still be 'Simon and Garfunkel,' all the Beatle tribute bands are really the Beatles and there are hundreds of real Elvis's still alive in Las Vegas! All unreal that it has come to this mess. Rick is better way from it all and I suspect has strategically walked away not just for health reasons, it was heart health problems but also his heart was not in the direction the band had gone. The Quo you're talking about is long since gone though, the FF reunions were a fantastic coda to past times but that's all they were, I love that line up and if I had a Tardis I'd be back at the Hammy Ode or Glasgow Apollo every weekend rocking out but those days have gone, they went when Spud left in 1981, I take it that Quo ended for you on that day and every line up since has been a pointless rehash?

Well, they have been doing that. They knew from the start and yet, they continued to use his face on posters to shift tickets for the gigs. I also notice they aren't offering any refunds to those who want their money back, like AC/DC did. I know it's not the most tasteful to thing to talk about but, fuck it! I spent 160 quid on tickets to see Rick. Now I'm not so I want my money back I agree that they probably have been doing that, I was just pointing out that could have carried on doing it. And yes they should offer refunds. Maybe they will, the announcement has only just been made so it's early days yet. I think they will. What Derry says about the Consumer Council seems to be on the nail to me.

Time has caught up with Quo, it's been creeping up on them, it's not like nobody noticed, and I hope each one of them will be able to work out the years in the future in their own way, whether it's what any of us want or not. I don't expect perfect endings, I may have romanticised about such things in the past but no more. I'm glad Rick is still alive, and I think we may see him on stage again but not as the Engine Room of the Quo we remember and love. I was a latecomer to live Quo and I've had 30+ years out of them, what have I got to grumble about? Francis said once that he regretted Rick didn't use his "ballad voice" more now. Maybe he will be able to explore that again, it was a real part of his musical life. I'm touched to see that Rick Jr and family are watching over him. Getting old is not a barrel of laughs, but Rick is really a very lucky man. He has helped to make us very lucky people. Also I think it was Marietta said once that Rick in the band always had someone to make him a sandwich. It's possible that just saved his life

Dump the moral high ground will you for fuck sake, RICK DID NOT LET QUO FANS DOWN>at almost 68 his heart appears to have let him down, more than likely caused by smoking, though definitely not by keeping fit Rocking all over the world with Quo or CQ. It's not "moral high ground". It's stating the bleeding obvious. aren't you a lucky sod your not a Motorhead fan then. Lemmy would have been made up. letsrock

What a sad day this is. But we all knew it couldn't last forever. Rossi should stop this band as soon as all planned gigs are done (people must be paid) and call it a day. It's over and done, and what a ride it was! Quo has ment so much for me in my life. I had my share of heartfailure myself, and Quo music could make me happy, even in those days. I just wished for a different ending of this band. But hey, you can't have it all. Thanks mr Parfitt and have a good life from this day on with your family. Because in the end that's all that matters. Being a rock star or not.... and I bet he knows it.

As long as he's healthy enough to be there for the kids, everything else is secondary.
