Long legged Linda is probably the first absolute stinker for me. In fact that whole album is crap.
B2b is more sterile, more clean and processed than it’s predecessors. I also like can’t be done though it’s a typical Rossi frost number, stay the night I quite like, mess of blues. They’re all ok to mediocre.
Ol rag blues would be the pick for me. And with Rossi’s far superior vocal

Old Rag Blues is just a terrible track with terrible keyboards. Sorry Al and all the people who love it.

BTB, upon viewing the tracklist to remind myself what's on it, is actually a decent album. Half of it I really enjoy (TCTTG, Mess of Blues, Ol Rag, Your Kind of Love). Even Can't be Done. Rita and GDTT I can do without. The style was changing, tracks like Stay the Night, Your Kind of Love, No Contract (first of Rick's 80s rocker aesthetic) have more in common with subsequent musical endeavours than past, but I can understand why Francis in particular felt they had to incorporate change.
Is BTB better than 1982, a question I'm unsure on. 1982 feels more Quo-ish and though its reputation is not too good I've always enjoyed most of it. Not up to the quality of Quo's peak obviously, but just enough kick there to make it worthwhil. I would likely go for 1982 as the better album.
That being said, Quo's renaissance since 1999 I feel was of mostly high quality. I really enjoy UTI, and two of my favourite Quo albums would be ISOTFC and QPQ. HT is recognised as the latter day classic, and while it's very good, Fourth Chord and QPQ I think surpass it. Those four albums I would put above BTB.
RTYD is a potential - my playlist of that album includes the excellent B Sides and cuts the few I'm not keen on from the album (ie Tommy..etc). That version of RTYD, with the B Sides and single version of CGYM, is far better than BTB.

Stay The Night is probably my least favourite Quo track of all time, but this version is better, just for a laugh....

No Contract (first of Rick's 80s rocker aesthetic) I'd argue that was Coming and Going a few years earlier maybe?

Not sure why we've got on to Long Legged Linda But while we're here I suppose.... I've never heard Andy's studio version. I don't think he recorded it until after he'd performed it at Reading in 1973. It pitches up as the B-side to a single he released in 1977 from the Good Advice album. The album which also gave us Another Shipwreck. I do think it has a really good riff and melody and would benefit from maybe being stripped down a bit. To be honest, it might have been a better choice to release as a single than Again And Again or Accident Prone. Commercially, I mean. But we'll never know.

Absolutely love Good Advice, I still have the white label lp he gave me when they were doing test pressings. Now there's one album that I would like to see remastered.

Andy was asked a couple of years ago, maybe longer, about reissuing his back catalogue but he simply said that no one would be interested so it wasn't worth it. I think he does himself a disservice personally but I don't see Quo's management giving him any sort of support or backing to be honest, so it would have to be self-funded. Probably not an option. I've managed to get hold of three of Andy's albums recently ( Good Advice, Sweet William and Come Back Romance All Is Forgiven) but I haven't listened to them yet coz I don't have a turntable. It's on my list for Santa I'm not sure how many he recorded. I'd have to check.

To my mind, Stay The Night seemed more of an elephant in the room on the Back To Back album than Marguerita Time, well until now as we are talking about it (!) We know that Rossi had been interested in what the band Squeeze were doing in the early 80s, in particular their East Side Story album time. He had said something in the past about 'Labelled With Love' being an influence with Marguerita Time. When I first heard Stay The Night, I immediately heard a connection with the Squeeze influence, perhaps he had been listening to tracks such as 'Piccadilly', 'Someone Else's Bell' and 'In Quintessence'. Just something about the playing style on Stay the Night, the chord progressions and Rossi hitting some vocal high notes that had been saying Squeeze to me. I first saw Squeeze at Hammersmith Odeon in the early 80s and a few times since. Really pleased that they are still about the place.

I've just checked Andy's discography and the only album I don't have is his first solo effort, Gone To My Head. So I'll keep an eye out for that. Although there are singles aplenty out there.
