Sales in Ireland may not be due to there being 'no rockers' in Ireland or that they are all Ed Sheeran fans (although of this there are definitely many) or that in Southern Ireland they listen to 'some awful aul' shite' (there is a strange Irish country scene for sure but also a very progressive music scene and taste)
....but perhaps a reflection that the product and band did not attract much interest which seems the likely and true case.

Week 3....Backbone UK no’48....sales 1,733. Total UK sales 13,510. Not much airplay this week or tv advertising. Maybe a new promotional single will give the album a push!

That’s not great really is it? Cheers Yes mediocre although that’s the state of the album charts at the moment. Less than 5,000 sales enough for top 10 this week. 1,000 sales for top 75. Generally there’s small amounts of unit sales between each chart position. Backbone not getting much promo at the moment & with no tour this year, sales will probably trickle along within the top 100 - 200. It took Heavy traffic & QPQ about 7 or 8 weeks to make silver (over 60,000 sales)

This is why I don’t understand how HT and QPQ went silver so soon. 10k sales first week then out of the charts after 3. So to sell 60000 would mean in weeks 4-6 each had to sell almost 15k a week. How can they have done that if they weren’t selling enough to get in the chart?

How can they have done that if they weren’t selling enough to get in the chart? True. Best example would be Perfect Remedy. 2 weeks in chart & silver certification (60k+) Maybe supermarket sales are added later & only sales from outlets like Amazon, iTunes, Spotify & HMV are linked to the sales chart straight away! Some compilation (cut price) like Now & Then (silver) & Essential (Gold 100k+) only chart top 75 for 1 or 2 weeks but remain in the top 200 for years, selling maybe 500 a month which soon add up, especially when Quo tour as much as they do. The latest one is RATW collection which has also gone silver. Nice little earners for the band & record company! It’s worth checking out BPI certified awards site, this explains the ins & outs.

It’s because the gold and silver awards are based on sales to retailers as opposed to copies bought by the public from those retailers.
Hence Perfect Remedy achieving silver

Looking back you know the last album of Original material to chart longer than 3 weeks was RTYD.
