God this is boring....this hijacking of threads to whinge and whine has closed two boards in the past. Just address the bloody topic at hand and take the CQ/FF arguments to the threads so titled so we can choose whether to read or not.
I don't see any 'hijacking' of threads to whinge and whine. There seems to be very sensitive people who cannot stand alternative discussion and whinge and whine about it. Status Quo has a fractured history and any discussion of the band and the current band where it continues to use the name, history, legacy, music etc., will inevitably bring up these discussions. I think some people want all is 'rosy around the door' discussions and self congratulatory boring discussions where everyone agrees. There is I think another board for this? Status Quo also have a marketing department also putting out this message/propaganda on various sites. To close out/down and criticise this discussion is wrong where openness and inclusivity should be welcomed and encouraged. I agree with openness, as long as it is not used as excuse to spoil other peoples enjoyment or belittle them for liking a certain thing. Inclusivity means accepting other people's likes and dislikes, so snide comments, often expressed in a very impolite, disrespectful manner hardly encourage it. I don't think anyone on here is an "all is rosy and right with the world of Quo" person, some are more positive and still enjoy new product and live gigs but even in amongst the mostly good reviews of Backbone and the Hyde Park gig there has been some fair criticism. I remember when I first found this message board, I read the threads for a long while before I ever started contributing. What appealed to me was the good humor and witty banter, the mix of opinions, well expressed but also the tolerance of others towards those opinions. That seems to be diminishing more and more with repetitive, pointless, negative comments with zero to do with the thread they appear in. It get's to the point where you read an innocuous comment and you know exactly what will appear in response. I left a certain Whitesnake message board and the Magnum message board as they descended into schoolyard pettiness and if people were called out on their behaviour then the expected "run to mommy", hard done to attitude appeared. It would be a shame if this light hearted, good fun, friendly message board ended up the same way.

And it's not just some FF fans who are being told to cut it out. So have people from "the other side (something which is probably called the happy clappy fans who have nothing better to do then to give snide comments about people who don't like the new quo) been . Heck, for me this is Francis' Quo and I have pointed that out in the past. But that still doesn't mean I can't enjoy a new album 'cos in this case I do. And I certainly won't start a discussion on whether I should like them or not because it's current quo or because it's unlike the FF. The problem is that there are a few on BOTH sides who constantly trigger the boring arguments and making threads descend into boring shyte. Some newer fans give the impression that everyone who doesn't accept this as Status Quo is being unrealistic and wrong while some of the older write in such ways that people should feel bad about themselves if they do like current Quo. And that is the real problem and not there not being enough space to share opinions and have open discussions.

And that is the real problem and not there not being enough space to share opinions and have open discussions. Thanks, I can see what you are saying. The debates come with the territory arising from the history of the band. So for instance if someone says 'Quo are at number 6' this can be merely providing information, but it could also be viewed as goading and a red rag to a bull (I don't think it was at all) for some may question whether it is 'Quo' or not, same as 'Quo at Hyde Park', some will love it others will say but what 'Quo' is it, was it even Quo? (on this I don't reply to such discussion any more. I don't think it was Quo. I did watch the performance yesterday and thought it was slick and tight in one sense but I found myself constantly shaking my head as it was not 'Quo' as I knew it. I eventually got a sore head listening and was left with the impression that Rossi was not as good a guitar player as I had imagined which disappointed me, as he was someone I highly regarded for his soul and touch in guitar playing) To add depth when someone says 'Quo are at number 6' this naturally brings questions on how this has been achieved, the quality of it and because they are presenting themselves as Status Quo comparisons with what went before, the struggles and perhaps manipulations that brought about this situation etc etc etc. Without this it would become very boring and ridiculous everyone just saying 'brilliant' or thumbs up or start discussing how Leon did all those drum rolls caught on camera, why Richie has a stripe on his guitar and a small target symbol (is it recognising Rick and his target T-shirt?) etc., etc., Now all that would be boring. Used to be good when DavyNo and others were about for a bit of humour added to debates. Less dullness then! i am afraid it comes with the territory where the name is used today for product and the history is fractious. Would be so different if the current band did not use (or abusel) the name.

I can agree that the debates come with the territory and personally I have no problem with the debates about it all at all as long as it stays reasonable and without insulting people who have a different opinion. It's the hijacking of just about every thread lately for those sort of debates and the insults of people that I don't like. There is no need for that and there is no humor in hijacking every thread and/or insulting people, to the contrary, that gets very boring. No one needs to constantly agree or put up constant thumbs up or whatever, that would indeed make for a very boring place. I can agree with you on the name, for me it's FRQ. For others it's Status Quo, fine, up to them and I do respect others may still see it as Status Quo. Unlike you though I do enjoy this latest album quite a bit. Whether I would go to a live gig is a totally different matter, I don't think I would be able to enjoy it because Rick isn't there and because there's too much party stuff going on for me personally. But those who do enjoy it, fine, have no problem with that at all either. I know that there are people who will agree that the name Status Quo shouldn't be used and there will be those who disagree. Those sort of debates and especially the stupid insults and snide comments around it all don't need to show up in every thread though, that gets very boring and wears thin in the end for a lot of people.

Oh that's true without a doubt, Gaz ! And I think it was about time that the atmosphere became more positive. I realize there will always be arguments for and against and as long as those arguments remain reasonable and even are defended with passion I have nothing against it. But the insults or snide comments are not needed.

Spot on, succinct post Gaz.
Have been looking at the two main message boards over a period of time (contributing to this one) and this board has seemed less enamored with Francis and the band generally, a little more cynical perhaps. I understand those feelings.
Therefore it has been telling that a positive wave seems to be sweeping over the board about the current state of affairs, with only a few dissenting voices. Positive opinions from certain members (you know who you are!) that have been a bit of a Litmus test. Not saying that their opinions are the only ones worth listening to as a balance is usually healthy, though the balance seems to be swinging in favour of the album and their performance at Hyde Park.
I don't suppose many of us get over excited by bands as we once did as adolescents, as life takes its toll and we have to grow up, usually! Though I think it was wishing4oldquo who said it well, about still looking for his team's result on a Saturday or whatever and it would be a sad day if that more carefree and youthful moment no longer mattered.
