powerage That's the one, and yeah he used the Zemaitis on stage up until 2002 (I think). Rick got rid of the Zemaitis, the guitar he used on the 'Fun Fun Fun' music video, the guitar from the 'Rain' music video and a white Jackson guitar from '88... Rossi got rid of his beautiful Ovation viper (picture below) and the guitar used on 'Who Asked You' video.

About 6 years ago I went to a storage / rehearsal complex in London used by various bands and artists. Whilst on a tour round, we were taken to a series of rooms or vaults if you like where gear was stored in cages. The first one that caught my eye was Noel Gallagher's lock up, filled to the brim with guitar cases and amps. I can't remember many of the other artists but we walked past one that had a White Marshall 4x12 cab in it. Glancing around the cage, I saw a flight case labelled "STATUS QUO LONDON". On top of that particular flight case was a silver guitar flight case labelled "Rick's SG". It may have been empty (I'll never know!), can't say for sure but it was pretty awesome to not only see Quo's lock up but that particular guitar labelled. Might have been his SG junior. Rossi had it in his home studio around '05. Both Rossi and Rick auctioned off a few of their guitars a few years back... mainly ones that only appeared in music videos other than his Zemaitis Rick was still using that SG around 2005. He used it for Belavista Man on occasions it's not the same SG he had in 1973. As this one has a P90 not a Humbucker. |

anyone know what become of this guitar? last time it appeared was 2010/11 Ahh the melody maker. I loved that guitar. Used it on Backwater and 4500 times during the 00's. |

I heard that a roadie snapped the neck. That may be bollocks though.
A friend of mine used to do a bit of stuff for Quo from time to time (driving etc) and got a call one day to go help clear a 'lock-up' the band had been using.
He said he saw that guitar in a skip in pieces. So that would seem to fit the above.
He's since said that he really regrets not having retrieved it and then given it to someone like Tony to sort out. Hindsight eh?!
I reckon its the coolest guitar Rick ever used.

I heard that Rick was playing on stage. Jumped of the drum riser and fell over and that snapped the neck.

As far as I know the body was repainted the same white it was but not with a lacquer finish, it's now a matte white... Damage is still present on the headstock and neck and the original machine heads were replaced...   |
