Yeah, I think the Gibo SG was his choice before the Tele.

Yeah, I think the Gibo SG was his choice before the Tele. Two SG's to be exact.

Yeah, I think the Gibo SG was his choice before the Tele. Yeah he had that light Blue Tele in the 60s, Which he later burnt the finish off. He used that until DOTH he then had 2 SG's between 72/73. One had a batwing Scratchplate and P90 pickup. The other a smaller scratchplate and a Humbucker. I think because the SG has a one piece neck they could not cope with the pounding Rick used to give them. He got the White Tele in 74 and the Wembley 74 film was one of the first times he had used it. As it still had the original Telecaster bridge at that point. BTW the White Tele was not the earlier Blue one refinished. As some have thought because although the White Tele was Blue once it does not have a bound body like the earlier one did.

What's the guitar on the cover of the live single? A black Gibson Melody Maker that he used for 4500x. Tuned BBDGBE. A nice guitar.. shame he got rid of it

Funny that Rory Gallagher was the only other guitar hero who if you did a "who plays this?"you would know straight away...all the rest chopped and changed.I think that's all part of the bands appeal, you could play like them with the stuff they used.I also reckon that what Rossi slightly misunderstood. We like some things not to change and retiring the green fender was odd.You play a guitar could it have not been fixed?

A nice guitar.. shame he got rid of it I heard that a roadie snapped the neck. That may be bollocks though. I heard that Rick was playing on stage. Jumped of the drum riser and fell over and that snapped the neck.

All I know that was changed on Ricks melody maker was the neck pick up. Took the one from his Gibson SG Junior.

About 6 years ago I went to a storage / rehearsal complex in London used by various bands and artists.
Whilst on a tour round, we were taken to a series of rooms or vaults if you like where gear was stored in cages. The first one that caught my eye was Noel Gallagher's lock up, filled to the brim with guitar cases and amps.
I can't remember many of the other artists but we walked past one that had a White Marshall 4x12 cab in it. Glancing around the cage, I saw a flight case labelled "STATUS QUO LONDON". On top of that particular flight case was a silver guitar flight case labelled "Rick's SG". It may have been empty (I'll never know!), can't say for sure but it was pretty awesome to not only see Quo's lock up but that particular guitar labelled.

Rossi had it in his home studio around '05. Both Rossi and Rick auctioned off a few of their guitars a few years back... mainly ones that only appeared in music videos other than his Zemaitis

He also used the Zemaitis at MK as well I thin, red with cut silver design / scratch plate? Was that guitar auctioned off as part of the auction you mentioned above?
