Question for those saying it's good..... If that was another band, you didn't have an emotional attachment to, would you listen to it again? Yes I would listen to it. Its not necessarily about having an emotional attachment. There are (admittedly a very small number) of FF songs I am less keen than the majority - so it is not necessarily always an emotional factor driving a response anyway even with the classic original band.
That's A Fact just happens to be a damn good song in its own right - and was one of those songs they wrote on pretty much all the best of the 70's era albums that provided a very interesting departure from the bread and butter boogie Quo songs. Whilst still keeping something of a bluesy groove.
I said in my post yesterday that the majority of longer term fans would loathe this version of the song, and so far it seems I was right. But that didn't require genius obviously. But I also tried to say that I think the very few (like me) who are not just simply writing "crap" "shite" etc think that it is also possible to be objective and try and actually say something about it - without necessarily indicating that you are raving about the song by doing so.
My own thoughts about the last few years in terms of CQ and choosing these acoustic projects and other things over following up the FF instead should be well enough known.
However, I would see no point posting on here if all I was going to post were one word, one phrase responses for everything I don't like.
I will stick to the view that this version of this song is at least better than some of the versions of some of the songs on AQ1. To my ear, there are some quite creative processes going along, and whilst its certainly debateable whether they are all compatible with the original song, and I think the singing lets it down in quite a way - frankly this scores more points than CQ live gig karaoke.
I'll he objective then. The strings and backing singers cheaping it, significantly. Female backing singers can add brilliantly to a song, when they are given the right melodies and harmonies to sing. The dynamics in their singing is all wrong. It's like a "Who can sing the loudest to be noticed" type thing. They need to be subtle and realise that the song is the artist here, not their voices. Speaking of voices, Francis doesn't sound good at all. The strings don't belong in this song at all. Especially before the "And that's a fact" line. It almost makes it sound like a parody. Harmonica, Bass, steal guitar or slide guitar would have been better suited for those intervals. Usually when a band plays a different style of song or music, there are still little elements of their sound that make you go "ah yeah that's Quo" or "ah yeah that's Queen/Stones/ABBA" etc etc.... There is not one element of Quo in this. The production makes the song sound lifeless and soulless. I can tell by how it sounds that it's full of overdubs and no one was in the same room together when they recorded it. The plus points.... There is no accordion on it. It's not the worst thing they've ever done. 3/10

No accordion?! This just gets worse! Don't worry, I noticed they mic it up live and push its level up to the max, as he plays on every. Fucking. Song

I quite liked it. I like the orchestral backing and not having too much if any accordion.

Didn't like it on first listen, listened to it 5 times now & like it a lot. Not as brilliant as the electric version but good imo. Look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

If I think there's a reason to post more then one line, I will, if I don't, I won't, simple as that

I'm sorry but Francis sounds (to quote catlady) karaoke... sometimes breathless and reading off a sheet. Don't mind those backing singers though (phwooaar) when they give it some spice.

It was a general comment and not aimed at you (or anyone) specifically. If people think what they think and want to express that in a word or phrases, fine. The point actually was more self directed in that I prefer to say a little more than that for discussion purposes.
That doesn't make me right and I'm sure/know that there are enough who wish I just shut up. Once again, fine. Each to their own.

Not defensive at all for me, sorry. I write plenty of longer posts and I am very well capable of writing constructive posts if I think there is reason to. In this case I didn't see any reason to. I simply felt and feel the whole thing is crap and then I ain't spending anymore unnessesary words on it. Had it been worth to me to say more about it, I certainly would have.

To be fair SHITE sums it up perfectly. Unfortunately I'm not capable of long drawn out constructive posts as I'm thick as shit.

I didn't or haven't ever said you weren't capable of writing constructive posts. I used to exchange enough of them with you before at one time. And you don't have to say more about it if you don't want to - I did try to say each to their own
Plus I already had a bit of a pop at myself for admitting my own posts waffle on far too long!
Moving on - anyway, for my own part I have listened to this song a couple more times and whilst it will never compare with the original, I'm coming to think it is ok

Never said you said that. I simply added that to my post. What you did say was this But I also tried to say that I think the very few (like me) who are not just simply writing "crap" "shite" etc think that it is also possible to be objective and try and actually say something about it That implied to me that I and others didn't listen to it objectively. Well I did. But the simple fact is that even if you listen to something objectively, sometimes you just don't need to spend many words on your end judgement about it. Had I thought the song would have been worth saying more about I would have. But I didn't, so I said it's utter crap which is what I truly feel about it. And yep, we indeed used to exchange longer posts... so what changed ?
