I'm just glad that I lost my memory in 1979. That latest Status Quo album Whatever you Want sounds quite good on first listen.

Loved it! Quirky, (or is that Quorky?) Seriously, really like it. Always been one of my faves, and this versions is not quite up to the FF of course, but....
The only thing missing for me is anything that is obviously Rick. not sure I can even here is voice. Was he involved or was this done while he was on sick leave (Wonder if he gets statutory sick pay?)

Total arse dribble. Never has King Kurt's "Fuck Off Status Quo" tune been more appropriate.

That vocal performance couldn't have lacked any more feeling if it had been sung by Apple's talking assistant Siri.

Terrified of hearing what they've done to Backwater... Alan will lose his shit, as Rick quietly seethes and says nowt After getting over the initial shock of hearing Backwater done in a TOTALLY different style, and giving it repeated listens over the past few weeks, I can honestly say that I really like what they've done with it. It's wonderfully swampy and certainly one of the best productions on the album. I agree, I think a bit more thought has gone in to the arrangements on this album!!

Francis Rossi:"This way lads I've found a legacy to piss on" And they have been deconstructing their legacy quite successfully since 1977!!

Question for those saying it's good..... If that was another band, you didn't have an emotional attachment to, would you listen to it again? Yes I would listen to it. Its not necessarily about having an emotional attachment. There are (admittedly a very small number) of FF songs I am less keen than the majority - so it is not necessarily always an emotional factor driving a response anyway even with the classic original band.
That's A Fact just happens to be a damn good song in its own right - and was one of those songs they wrote on pretty much all the best of the 70's era albums that provided a very interesting departure from the bread and butter boogie Quo songs. Whilst still keeping something of a bluesy groove.
I said in my post yesterday that the majority of longer term fans would loathe this version of the song, and so far it seems I was right. But that didn't require genius obviously. But I also tried to say that I think the very few (like me) who are not just simply writing "crap" "shite" etc think that it is also possible to be objective and try and actually say something about it - without necessarily indicating that you are raving about the song by doing so.
My own thoughts about the last few years in terms of CQ and choosing these acoustic projects and other things over following up the FF instead should be well enough known.
However, I would see no point posting on here if all I was going to post were one word, one phrase responses for everything I don't like.
I will stick to the view that this version of this song is at least better than some of the versions of some of the songs on AQ1. To my ear, there are some quite creative processes going along, and whilst its certainly debateable whether they are all compatible with the original song, and I think the singing lets it down in quite a way - frankly this scores more points than CQ live gig karaoke.
