He was the first guitarist I felt like a metal guitarist (and I didn't even know it was him, I thought it was Eric ... ) I'm glad he made 78 anyway. Great artists deserve time. RIP Jeff

The rock 'n' era and its stars is slowly diminishing and now we have another one of the greats gone! Sad days for his family and for us who grew up listening to these guys!!

Oh no! He was a good age but still performing. I've just read that his passing was sudden after contracting bacterial meningitis. A real favourite of mine and a very innovative guitar player. His solo work has always been hugely different never following any trends and his style was truly unique. Famous, of course, for Hi Ho Silver Lining but he hated that song I don't think he ever played it, although never having seen him live, he might have. Here he is with his seriously talented band in slightly heavier mode. A terrific track from his 1999 solo album, Who Else?RIP, Mr Beck. Another true legend gone

I've just seen this on twitter. I missed the news earlier. I'm heart broken. Saw him only last May at the Albert Hall. One of the best gigs ever. Looking at all the posts on twitter - even Donny Osmond pays tribute to him. Perfect tribute track noizeboyz This is beautiful in a rock meets classic way. YT selected it after the track Noizboyz posted. With another legend from same gig above Ennio Moriconne.

We're starting to run low on rock gods..... Cool track 4th Chord. He was also great at featuring the women in his bands.

Coincidentally, the same Freddie King song chosen by quodec to celebrate Maggie Bell's birthday today.

We're starting to run low on rock gods..... You're so right. Most of us have lived through a golden age of popular culture and music in particular. Maybe another 20 years tops and they'll all be gone. Ed Sheeran will only be in his 50's. Clapton, Beck and Page was always a well used phrase by the music media. Jeff Beck was the best of them all. I said earlier I hadn't seen him live. I actually have. Just not as a solo artist. It was with Beck, Bogart & Appice way back in 1974. Only the 4th gig I had ever been to. Bet I wore flares
