Totally agree... I meant no disrespect to Francis' singing ability earlier. He's brilliant at what he does but, the question was who was the best out of the three and there is no debate, it's Rick. YOU TAKE THAT BACK! NEVER!!! *Takes glove off and slaps one across the mush*

I remember that comment about BTO really well, uwe. I didn't mind because I liked BTO I think the guy was actually talking about Alan as much as anyone. Especially during Junior's Wailing where he's gruffer than ever. Incidentally, and just to emphasise the variety that Quo could call upon, Leon has an excellent singing voice as well.

None, great vocalists but none of them are singers.
The closest to a singer would be Richie.
But, as in most rock or pop bands, they are vocalists not singers.
Steve Marriott and Chris Cornell were singers, but now I am struggling.

There's only one Ritchie who spells himself with a 't'!!! Known for his Strat, fearsome solos and roaming the stage like a predator, no silly pansy choreographed dancing moves! Ever!

Can’t say who is better technically but Alan will always be my favourite vocalist .His voice on the reunion tours was powerful and strong and I’ll forever be grateful I got to see him one final time. Always thought it a shame he never sung on any of the singles. Cheers If only they released Backwater as a single and not Break the Rules. Way too honky-tonk for me.

Rick to me was technically superior - he could actually do a vibrato. He could do gentle ballads and get right up there in his prime with the hard rockers that the others could not do. Of course it changed alot over the years.
Francis has a lovely warm voice suited to radio and TV, so the singles were his domain.
Never really got the love for Nuff - always sounded like he was trying too hard to me.

I like Rossi's laconic delivery as a singer - and it's not an act, he is laconic after all. Nuff was always "chest-beatingly manly" in his delivery on the harder songs and that could become samey, but he could be gentle too, think of Blue For You (the song) or Ease Your Mind, both of which I always loved. The people pining for Rick certainly have one argument in their favor, his voice was the most versatile - both rockers and ballads - and at the same time very compatible with Rossi's when they did harmony. Thinking about it, this poll actually misses the most typical "voice(s)" of Status Quo of all - namely Francis and Rick singing together, it was a key component of their band sound. Think of them both as the working man's version of Frida and Agnetha of that little-known Swedish outfit! Even the hair colors match. Now, don't thank me, I've always been good at spotting commonalities ...

If you want a comparison between Alan and Rick, i always put these two tracks on, and they just happen to be back to back on the album:
Backwater is great of course (IMO), but this version is a little on the gruff side, so when Rick comes in with LL, i kind of wish he'd sung Backwater as well as he'd raise it to a higher level vocally, and overall - again, my opinion.
