Rick and by an incredible distance. He was incredibly versatile, melodic, powerful, could hit you in the heart. His range was brilliant Francis has his nasal trademark sound but, he's not on Rick's level (when both in their prime) and he's said as much. Alan, amazing rock voice. Incredibly powerful and could hit really high notes in that genre but, falls short of Rick

Francis all day long for me, although 'best' is very subjective. Let's call it a preference When I first got into Quo, that unique nasal quality on songs like In My Chair and Tune To The Music was so much a part of the experience. And if I think back, it was such an important factor on the Dog Of Two Head, Piledriver, and Hello! albums. It wasn't just Quo who provided the soundtrack to my youth, it was Francis's voice. Quo were lucky - and still are - to have had so many band members who could hold a tune because it provides variety and bang on harmonies.

Nobody could sing most of Francis songs better than Francis, the same for Rick and the same for Alan!

The magic of Quo was that they all sang, I wouldn't want to miss any voice. In a rock context, Francis had/has the most idiosyncratic and immediately identifiable as well as Quo-defining voice. Both Alan and Rick could have joined, say, Foghat as lead vocalists and no-one would have cried " But Foghat sounds all different now!", that wouldn't have worked with Rossi. And while both Alan and Rick are brawny and chest-beatingly roawk! in their vocals, Francis is singer/songwriter-wrily-expressive in his delivery and draws me into his lyrics every time. I remember an NME review of the Status Quo Live ! album where the journo wrote " Rossi has a fine, tuneful voice, but the other guy who sings with him (the scribe thought Alan and Rick were one voice) would have a hard time getting a job with Bachman-Turner Overdrive". I knew what he meant, both Alan and Rick would have done mighty fine with BTO on the CF Turner-sung songs (the BTO hits were generally sung by Randy Bachman, he was their Francis so to say).

Alan was more suited for vocals on Carol than Francis. That one should have been his.

Can’t say who is better technically but Alan will always be my favourite vocalist .His voice on the reunion tours was powerful and strong and I’ll forever be grateful I got to see him one final time. Always thought it a shame he never sung on any of the singles. Cheers

I meant no disrespect to Francis' singing ability earlier. He's brilliant at what he does but, the question was who was the best out of the three and there is no debate, it's Rick.

Wot? Vintage Andy's gravelly Mark Knopfler voice has real Brit charm!
And as a young man he had a pleasant pop voice that wouldn't have been out of place with 10cc or Pilot.
