Last night I watched a live video from 2014 with Quo3 doing a medley of rarely played songs beginning with Just Supposin, then Railroad, etc. NOT ONE SONG AFTER 1980. Combined with the almost total lack of Quo3 material at shows, it struck me this is just a nostalgia band who occasionally put out a new album of rock and roll. For me, the odd thing is that most of the new rock material is quite good, limited only by an inferior rhythm section.
When Rossi says he doesn't want to be a nostalgia band, he's either being disingenuous, or he's in his own world. He already is what he says that he doesn't want to be.

I completely agree that they are a nostalgia band. Playing on the success of years gone by and occasionally chucking in the odd new-ish song.
If they wish to be a nostalgia band they might as well have the line-up that created most of the hits.

I doubt AL could maintain that pace, so Edwards could play in the gigs AL couldn't, but it's not like he's out there playing his own songs, or singing. I am also struck on the earlier videos, from the late 70's or early 80's, how many times 4 people were singing...RP, FR, AL and AB. With Edwards, who wants him to sing live?

Curious Girl. You like this for what reason? Trying to belittle a member of the band? Is this a Status Quo board and are you a moderator of the board> ?

When Rossi says he doesn't want to be a nostalgia band, he's either being disingenuous, or he's in his own world. He already is what he says that he doesn't want to be. When Francis was referring to nostalgia, as in he didn't want to do any more FF Reunion tours because he didn't like the nostalgia aspect of them, I believe he was saying he doesn't want to get too close to Alan and John anymore as he could feel a lot of friction may be just under the surface of their characters and he felt it wouldn't take much for those old wounds to resurface. He said..'I don't want to do another FF tour...I just don't want to go and do all that nostalgic stuff again'. Francis is the top dog and he probably feels some angst knowing Alan has very strong ideas as well. After all it was a very deep wound that was left behind to fester for a few decades after Alan,in particular, was fired. I reckon Francis feels his friendship with Alan has been (lightly) rekindled , Alan and John have got some extra cash from the tours and sales of the FF tour dvds, merchandise, etc and he just wants to leave it on the high from the Dublin gig. He's top dog with CQ and feels quite comfortable with that. Maybe he should have used a word other than nostalgia when speaking of FF Quo. Maybe 'tension'?

Looking at the live set, the same point might have been made in 82!

This is a very good point that I'd almost forgotten about, until I was reminded at the FF gigs. What I loved about Quo's live shows before AL left was that there wasn't a frontman. Yes, Rossi sort of played that role, talking to the audience, and being known as the lead singer on most of their hit singles, but on stage the songs were split 3 ways, and it created a fantastic feeling of being in a gang with the band. You had the Quo Army, and you had these three main guys on stage all singing their own bits and creating the flow of a show.
Even though it was 30 years ago, I can still remember the weird feeling of going to see them support Queen, and buying a Quo's Back t-shirt, which had a photo on the front of just Rossi & Parfitt. It didn't feel quite right, but it said Status Quo at the top and I was just pleased that 'Status Quo' hadn't disappeared forever, as I expected them to after Milton Keynes.
I always thought that Rhino & Jeff were like session men. It wasn't until Jeff left and was replaced by Matt, but Rhino stayed in the band, that he became a bit more established. But even now, they still use Francis & Rick for publicity, interviews etc.

And Rick has just become a yes man. If he loved working again with JC and Alan so much he would have gone out with them for a few live dates. It's not about the music anymore unfortunately,it's become a business Cheers
