Drummer Simon Wright was born on 19th June 1963 and is 59 today. His main claim to fame was his six year stint as drummer with AC/DC, following the departure of Phil Rudd in 1983. Wright left in '89 to join Ronnie James Dio's band. He has also played on UFO and MSG albums. This clip is an instrumental AC/DC had on their 1986 album 'Who Made Who'. Cracking drumming from Simon on it.

Several significant musical birthdays today; Chet Atkins (1924-2001), Mickie Most (1938-2003), Lionel Richie (1949), Michael Anthony-Van Halen (1954) & John Taylor-Duran Duran (1960). My pick of the day however must be Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, who is 80 today - just two days after Paul McCartney's 80th!! A prolific songwriter and producer for the band during the mid-60s, his excessive lifestyle finally caught up with him and he became reclusive for nigh on three decades. However, he pulled himself together and today his legacy still shines strongly. Here he is (playing bass guitar) at Glastonbury in 2005.

A lot of big-name musical birthdays this last few days - and today 21st June - is no exception! On this day in 1944 Ray Davies was born in Muswell Hill, London, making him 78 today. In 1963, along with his brother Dave, he founded The Kinks, and along with The Beatles & The Stones, they more or less invented the popular music we listen to today. Most of us know the 60s stuff up to Lola and Apeman in the early 70s, so I've chosen an 1984 single, 'Do It Again' and a live version of it to boot. Even 20 years after 'You Really Got me' Ray could still write some great tunes.

Kris Kristofferson is.....86 today!! Holy crap! Todd Rundgren is 74, while Cyndi Lauper is 69!! It'd also Alan Osmond's 73rd and Jimmy Somerville's 61st birthday. But the birthday I'm noting today is the 61st birthday of Bobby Gillespie, who formed the band Primal Scream in Glasgow forty years ago and is their main vocalist. This single is from thirty years ago - seems like yesterday since this was in the charts!!

I completely agree, quodec. 30 years since Primal Scream's early hits seems nuts! How can Bobby Gillespie possibly be 61??

Miles Goodwin, lead singer with the Canadian band 'April Wine', is 74 today, the 23rd June. The longest surviving member of the band (since 1969, when they formed), he eventually became their main songwriter and vocalist. By the late 70s and early 80s they had achieved recognition and success in Canada, the US and partly in Europe. I bought their 9th album 'Nature of the Beast' when it was released in 1981 and it still gets a run on the turntable to this day. Some great tracks on it, this probably being the pick of them.

I dabbled with them for a short time. Only ever bought their Harder....Faster album. I sort of owe them a debt of gratitude. I went to see them in 1980 and they were supported by 4 very young lads collectively known as Diamond Head. They brought the house down and I was a fan of theirs for many years. Saw them again a couple of years ago actually 👍 Sorry, off on a bit of a tangent there

Lots of rock birthdays for 24th June; Arthur Brown (the crazy world of...) is 80, the inimitable Jeff Beck is 78, Mick Fleetwood is 75, OMD's Andy McCluskey is 63 & Tears for Fears' Curt Smith is 61. Rammstein's guitarist Zven Richard Kruspe is 55 today. He has been with the band since its inception in 1994. This clip is from this year and is indicative of their fire and sound theatrical performance. Must be something to be at the front of stage during a gig like this!!! (Richard stands to the left of the singer)

Never seen Rammstein live, although I actually had tickets once to see them in Glasgow but didn't go. Can't remember why now but I gave them to my brother-in-law. I'd not long bought the Mutter album so must've been the early 2000's. I think my step-daughter saw them at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff a while back. She did mention the fireworks However, back to Richard Kruspe. He has a solo project called Emigrate. I've only heard the album, Silent So Long, but it's a cracker. If you like your industrial metal that is. Good choice, quodec 👍

Wow, that clip of Tusk was fabulous. I've got the album and know the track well. But I never quite understood why the Gladiator band was thanked at the end. I could of course hear them. Seeing them appear like that on stage was amazing. That is a gig I would have love to have been at. Thanks for the clip 4th. btw - a great thread quodec. I hadn't really had time to read it before. Thanks for doing this, it's great fun.

George Michael would have been 59 today. He was born on 25th June 1963 and died on Christmas Day 2016 - the day after Rick Parfitt! This 1999 clip is a live version of his 1987 no. 2 UK hit.
