Such sad news but at least his dignified and courageous fight is over. He never wanted sympathy, it was still all about the music on the two reunion tours. I'm so very glad he got to feel that tidal wave of love for him sweep over the stage from every audience on those tours. Stop making me cry 😭

Dayle said in a statement: "We are all heartbroken. Alan had a wonderful wit and a fabulously dry sense of humour. He was a devoted and adoring husband, father and grandfather. Family was always his focus."

Oh dear, dear, dear...this is what I posted on the German message board:
I'll be honest, this morning when I got the news on Whatsapp in our "Backbone Party" group, it didn't hit me that hard. Of course I immediately listened to Backwater/Just Take Me but ok. Then throughout the day it burned itself into my brain...Alan is dead. Dr Backwater. Nuff. It got worse and worse. After I voted I read the condolences of the Quofamily, Francis, John, Richie, Leon, Rick Jr. and then it suddenly hit me. Unexpected, but intense. Fuck, half the original Quo are dead. Fuck. Can't write anything else, so here's my FB entry from just now for those who aren't on there:
What an unbelievably awful day for all Quo fans, for the Quoarmy: founding member, bassist, songwriter and singer Alan Lancaster of Status Quo has closed his eyes forever, lost the fight in the end after all. I am heartbroken and deeply saddened. Now half of my favourite band, my boys, are already gone. Fuck. But: Thank you Alan for all the great songs, with you on bass, the tunes you wrote and sang. Thank you for the reunion tours in 2013 and 2014 after more than 30 years, which no fan would have thought possible, and which blew us all away. Thank you for sacrificing yourself for us in Stuttgart on 21.03.14 and struggling to the point of complete physical exhaustion. Those who were there know what I mean. Thank you for allowing me to experience the very last concert with you on 12.04.2014 in Dublin together with Dad. Thank you Alan for your contribution to my all-time favourite band. Thank you for your kind words at our only face-to-face meeting in Glasgow on 10/03/13 (see cover photo). Thanks for everything, Alan "Nuff" Lancaster!❤😭😭❤ "Backwater doctor, you've got me breathing in time" - that's a line from "Backwater" one of your Quo songs...this time he didn't get you breathing apparently. Take care Alan, sleep well and above all: have a drink with your mate Ricky, get pissed, it doesn't matter now anyways!🤷♂️😂❤ RIP Alan Lancaster, 07.02.1949 - 26.09.2021❤🤘"
And yes, I'm sitting here weeping now, listening to Mountain Lady at the moment...

Really sad to hear this news.
So another (your) life may have ended, but your contribution to mine and so many others hasn't.
Thank you Alan, from another life-long fan.

Edit: The media in Germany are quite clinging up on the news, despite the general election going on today. Also there was a huge flea market (?) here in my town today and I went up to this old, long and grey haired guy selling vinyls. He saw my Quo Tshirt, offered his condolences (he knew!) and showed me his Quo stuff...I ended up buying the NTL because Al's face is on the back...he gave me discount

Down at Backwater junction, rolling down the line... RIP mr. Alan Lancaster. Say hello to Rick for me. I bet you're already rockin' together up there! Another Frantic Four member has left us. So sad.

I may be mistaken, but I think this weekend was going to be the Quo Convention weekend in Minehead, if it wasn't for Covid.

Att: Aussie fans, I believe Studio 10 will be giving a tribute to Alan this morning (Monday) What an absolute embarrassment the Alan tribute was on Studio 10. After announcing his passing, the host says ‘and here he is this video clip wearing his white t-shirt and tight blue jeans’ … whereupon they show the RAOTW clip and zoom in on Rick in the white t -shirt and jeans… no Alan! What a balls up.
