I wouldn't criticise them for playing old stuff, it is what heritage bands do, and what in the main fans who go to see them want. But where it sticks in my throat for me, is all the put-downs Rossi made about the Frantic Four just being about nostalgia.

Looked at the set and it's not enough to tempt me back. I don't want to hear rain, LL and MS without Rick. Rick sang many great songs, why not try one not done live before? The well tread rick songs now played cant possibly be as good now
The medley is tired and there are lots of others mid set I don't really want to hear. Get out of my head is the only song I've not heard before that makes me want to go. I like liberty Lane and backing off, but they will be plodders live
The opening four numbers really rock but then the set doesn't rock hard at all until ROLD and DD. Thats an hour or so of lite rock in the middle
Hope everyone out out quoing has a great time. Never say never, but right now I'd rather travel local and pay £10 for an ear bleeding tribute act

I don't think the Liverpool gig this weekend will be my swansong but the winter gigs might be. Then again, I've been down this road before and as soon as they hit the stage, I'm off and running a like demented, much younger person Paying for it later of course It's all about enjoying myself. If I do - and I usually do - I'll go back. Why would I prevent myself from having fun? On a point of principle? I don't think so. The set list looks OK to me. 4 new(ish) songs I haven't heard live before and the first half looks pretty good. I think Beginning Of The End and The Oriental should probably have been put out to grass but it's fairly well documented that Francis is keen on both. We could all shout for replacements and mine would probably be Two Way Traffic and, well, pretty much anything else Towards the end, of course, we get the incredibly predictable last 5 songs - in the same incredibly predictable order. But it works for them and it works for the vast majority of the audience. Who am I to spoil the party? See what I did there? Sis is wildly keen to go. Me and Mrs Mortified less so. Mainly coz of the travel. Then there's that new question. To mask or not to mask? Depends. If we suffer the slings and arrows of outrageously bad wine, I might just sit with my mask on and sulk See you there

Showed up at the Olympia Dublin last night for my first music gig in over two years. Really really enjoyed it, like a breath of fresh musical air - amidst all the sweat and bobbing heads! And no masks either, what a relief! So here are some random thoughts after the dust has settled.
Bittersweet return to Dublin for Richie, with his father, who died last month, absent in the audience, although his family were up in one of the stalls watching with pride. Great additional/backing vocals by all the band, helping to carry Rossi through the set. Even Rhino's vocals on Again and Again were good. Loads of guitar, loud guitar in the mix! In fact the only time I consciously heard Andy was at the intro to Rockin. Richie's vocals on Get Out of My Head and Rain were really excellent. In fact, when Rossi occasionally lost his place vocally he would look to Richie to help reel him back in. Richie is a great sidekick for the GOMORR. Lots of movement on stage, everyone regularly switching over and back. Four tracks from Backbone played. Three were fine but Backing Off didn't work for me. I can see it been dropped soon. The Oriental ('Don't send me a Russian') and In the Army Now ('Stand up and fight') were inadvertently topical. Leon's drumming was excellent, heavy, heavy. I love the way he lifts the sticks high at some points to create more power on the downstroke. ROLD was fantastic! Rossi even played the solo as it should be. Down Down was good, despite some mix up in the middle when Rossi played a few bars of WYW!!! One song in a truncated encore - Paper Plane. They need to put at least one more in there, even switch RAOTW to finish on a high point.
All in all a great night. I said to myself back in 2006 that'll do me for Quo live gigs but I keep going back for more. When all is said and done I think it's all about the music - and nothing more!

Same year I decided to call it quits. Met Mrs Mortified the same year. We've done over 80 Quo gigs together since! She's dragged me all over Europe to see them and it's been a blast. But I'm tired now Good post by the way. Good write up

I prefer the look of his guitar this year with the white plate!! . Yes it looks like a telecaster body with a different neck . Looks more QUO shall we say.

Travelled over from England for the Olympia Dublin gig, and absolutely loved it - fabulous little venue with standing in the stalls. Stood next to another couple who had also travelled over - they were from Hastings. Felt the concert had great energy, and a healthy mix of old and new. Of course, everyone has a different view about what they should play, but no complaints from me. Definitely a little rustiness - as acknowledged by Francis on stage - but I am sure that they will tighten up as the tour progresses.
To whoever mentioned Francis’ shoes above, he told us at the beginning that, in getting everything togther for their first concerts in 2.5 years, someone had mislaid a small box of shoes - hence the unusual footwear. Apparently Rhino was wearing a pair of £32 trainers he had bought from Sketchers in Belfast !
My only concern - being the bluff old traditionalist that I am - was only having one encore. I had enjoyed Paper Plane, and was thinking I was looking forward to Burning Bridges and Bye Bye Johnny, when Francis pulled out his in-ear monitors and that was it. Seemed a very odd way to end, and not sure whether it was anything to do with a lack of rehearsal or energy, but I would love to think that both will be back in the set when I take my children to see them at G Live in Guildford in ten days time.
I have finally got around to signing up to this forum mainly so I can track the set list over the next ten days …
p.s. my avatar is a picture taken by my wife on Monday night !

Get out of my Head was the standout track for me on Backbone and it works really well live in that clip. Really good, driving Quo sounding guitars and great vocal from Richie. I hope we have more songs written and sung by him on the new album, he seems to understand the Quo sound better than Francis has for years.
