Let's not forget though, in Patty Parfitts autobiography in 98, she basically agrees with every single thing Rossi has said about him since. Every single thing. It's there in black and white. All of it. Even worse, she accuses him of knocking her about. Basically, every single thing Francis has said about Rick when he had a drink on him, she said the same and put sprinkles on top. But, of course, cos they got back together for the umpteenth time and then Rick died, that's all conveniently swept under the carpet and Francis is a prick... There is much more to meet the eye with all of them and I doubt we will ever come close to scratching the surface. 👍 I've never read her book and have no particular interest in doing so I can't comment. I'm especially not going to comment on unfounded accusations that were never followed up on. I know you are referring to Patty in your post. Rick is not beyond criticism, for me anyways. No one is. His laziness in the 90s, his part in going behind Alan's back etc. I'm trying to find a balance here. Rick is dead so he can't speak for himself. Meanwhile, Francis and now Rhino have thrown him under the bus, whilst respectively, patting themselves on the back. Rhino basically vented his insecurities in that interview and Francis, well its always everyone else's fault seemingly. "He wasn't fun anymore" I just think, with the world and society we live in today, when a human being is in a dark place, like Rick allegedly was, they deserve more care and understanding than to be left on their own or to say, "he's not my friend anymore" I find it really cold that only Rhino went with him, when he was supposedly going to die. Or maybe, the feeling was mutual. Who knows. As you say, we won't get close to scratching the surface. And as someone else, it's none of our business anyways. I'm just very interested in sociology What shocked me most was how that age-old seemingly indestructible friendship between David Crosby and Graham Nash came apart not so long ago. This after Nash really giving everything he had in order to help Croz through decades of drug troubles... so it certainly happens. Nash decided he'd had enough. Likewise, I'm thinking back to when Rick's daughter died. I do not know much but I'd guess some of the other band members tried to comfort him during those times. Then you have Rick himself talking about his bypass in 1997 and Francis later commenting how Rick wasn't a car. I would assume he did give some advice to him back then. Nobody was stopping Rick from doing a solo album earlier. Francis had already done too. Just a few random thoughts. Still haven't watched the interview...

At the risk of being thought of as a Francis apologist - last night I watched an interview on the YT from 2019. He was for a European company, I think in The Netherlands. YT offered it up for me now I've watched this one. I agree that when his grief was raw in 2016/17, Francis did sound like he was, 'throwing Rick under the bus'. But in that interview, and others I've heard when Backbone came out, he no longer does. I hear real affection and a softening in his judgement of Rick. He came over as a pro and not angry or bitter. He even says how much he actually enjoyed the 70s. Yes, he did! But what he struggles with is the nostalgia to return to those days. I felt sad and very uncomfortable for Rhino listening to this. But he says he's fine. So I won't worry about that. curiousgirl The truth is when we come to the band we all have our conscious or non conscious when it comes to band members and their histories. I do not profess to know Francis at all because I do not. I have met have and spoken to him on two occasions briefly. Compared to some other famous recording artists he appeared to come across as humble and funny. He can be a thouhtful interviewee. I am sure he misses Rick and like when I think of people I cared about who have passed I do not ponder on the bad things but the good things. What Francis doesn't appreciate is that people look at his history and see a pattern of when he is unhappy saying that the band will come to an end, then when someone leaves, he suddenly is happy to continue again. Maybe this is just a coincidence. It will never happen but I would like to know not the soap opera details but a simple explanation of where it changed with Rick with a simple time line. We see things from the sidelines and fill the gaps with our own versions based on our bias. However like all these things we can now only get one side of the story but to lets give credit to Rick jr and Rick's widow for not running to ther press to make a quick penny. On his tour, he spoke of the fall out, but only for comedic effect, describing how they would talk to each other from either end of their tour bus. If he doesn't wish to discuss it, then more reason for Edwards to do talk about it. Its sad we only get 'Rick changed' as a reason. Maybe he did, maybe he was unhappy. Maybe he was the same person he had always been and it is the others that had changed and were intolerant of him and his old ways. As for nostalgia, he seems to have been a Mod all these years, believing he is always pushing forward. Just once I would like him to recocile that with the amount of new music he plays live.

Thanks for taking time to respond to my comment paradiseflatsI don't really understand what you're getting at other than you don't like the way he responds. Such is life. We rarely get what we want but we hopefully get what we need.

I mean he has been open about this and said that the younger guys spirit gave them the urge to keep going a while longer. Who can blame them? Of course Richie would bring fire to the band being a fan and getting to play with his favorite band on stage I would rather have had solo tours from Francis instead since I really enjoyed the setlist on his last on with more "modern" quo songs though. I had a little hope that he would bring those in when they continued without Rick, but sadly it didn't happen.

I would have preferred they had insisted on playing more songs from the albums they had been releasing and keep playing them, rotating more. I also liked seeing Francis playing CGYM, You'll Come Round and songs from the ISOTFC album, but I'd have liked to see Quo playing those too. For instance, were they playing songs from UTI after 2002? As far as I know, no. But why? They should have insisted on playing those songs (Twenty Wild Horses, The Way It Goes), instead of resorting to the singles they always played. Same goes for the 80/early 90s, for songs like Perfect Remedy, The Power Of Rock, CGYM (from RTYD), some of the heavier songs from Thirsty Work, etc.. They should have rotated more.

I couldn't agree more. Also, they had so much potential in the setlist to switch out weird choices, like Rock'n'roll music? they could easily have played I don't remember anymore instead. And there was a concert on YouTube that I can't seem to find anymore (maybe Quoincidence have this somewhere on his hard drive), that was from 99 or 00 where it was maybe a one hour show where they played many songs from under the influence, like more than they usually play from newer albums. Why didn't they continue with that? And even nowadays with Rick gone they could swap out songs like Rain, little lady and mystery song to newer material as well. There's no point in playing those with Rhino or Richie on the lead when they have songs that they sing lead on released on earlier albums. If they want Rhino to sing something on the setlist then put in Bad News instead of Rain, If they want Richie to sing then put in Face The Music or Get out of my head instead of Mystery Song, and swap out Little Lady to a post 86 deep cut or single. It would be really cool if they would play like Perfect Remedy or something like that instead. My point is the audience wouldn't care if they swap out the Rick leads to something newer, it would only be welcomed

Most people these days are only there to hear Rocking All Over The World, Whatever You Want and In The Army Now. As much as I'd love to think they're going to hear Who Asked You, Accident Prone, Who Am I or Invitation, they're not. So they could play anything they want as long as those three are in the set I'd personally prefer if Richie sang songs of his own or newer songs, to let him create more of a stamp, make a mark on things. Same with Rhino. Having them sing Rick songs or Alan's songs isn't doing them any favours I don't think. It just draws unnecessary comparisons and if you start doing that, there's only going to be one winner. I think it would be good to open up to new ideas and see. The band Status Quo isn't what it was anymore and never will be again so, perfect opportunity to try new things

Shame about the comments regarding JC and the tempo plus timing etc and the playing of AL. He loved the atmosphere we all did so well done for saying that and then just say they were a bit rusty here and there and leave it at that. Perhaps a bit of a musicians thing rather than the overall picture. Nostalgia..back we go the seventies..bla bla..so what..it makes my piss boil..thats why we go to be transported back in bloody time otherwise you would get into a new band coming through. Happy for them to move with the times but the reason they are still going is on the back of the 4 guys plus AB and the seventies tracks mainly. I have enjoyed Quo throughout the years but the whole thing started for me with those 4 on the album covers..the obession if you like. I dont have that now and even more so since Rick died and a fair bit before. Living in the music past is brilliant especially at the moment with lockdown. I understand Rnino is only giving his view and some points are well made but some smack of a hint of lockdown fatigue so he is forgiven.

Thank God more people are seeing this as a thing to do. In 2019 I posted a long post with videos from every single Quo Lite song that would make for a great set, one I would pay to go see, but nobody liked thinking in those terms. Why would I want to see Rhino butchering one of AL's songs when I could see him butcher his own song?

And this is something they’ve should have done the whole time even when Rick was still alive. The only ones who would be happy about throwing newer songs in the set would be the real fans of the band, obviously they wouldn’t take away the biggest hits, they can still open with Caroline if they want and Whatever you want along with rocking all over the world would still be in the set. But throw in more songs from albums like perfect remedy and onwards. it’s weird that they never did try it anyways when Burning Bridges been a crowd pleaser over the years in the set. It would be really cool to see a set where at least 70-80% of the material consists of post 86 songs. And I’m also sure that they would have gotten more respect if they done that instead of going the route they did.

The hardcore would drift away even faster if classic FF songs were jetisoned and the average Joes who make up most of Quo's present audience wouldn't have a clue what the songs were. They should have rotated their setlist back in the 70s but didn't and now it's too late. You have to play what your audience wants to hear, that or occasionally play a rarities gig but that takes hard work and Francis has never been willing to put in the effort in the rehearsal room.

I can't wait for the day when bubbles going back to being just something in a drink or something little kids blow. This isn’t related to a certain dead American pop star is it ? Bubbles is alive and well in a sanctuary. He had to move there after he started too many fights with MJ... Seriously, no joke! Apparently chimps can be very volatile at times. That would have looked good. A load of Make A Wish Foundation kids pulling into Neverland as Bubbles prepared to headbutt them Rumour has it, he posted on the old message board from time to time. Loved a good spin of On The Level now and again did Bubbles, bloody loved it!
