Mystery Song, the single edit, would have been a big hit in the USA, surely?
That aside, i never understood what the Americans would have found so appealing about the RAOTW album, except maybe for Alan's song about riding on a Harley Davidson. Or was it more that middle of the road sound, not too edgy?

The sound aside first and foremost the material has to be strong enough. That album just didn’t have it to break the American market. Got nowhere near the Top of the charts here either so that tells you. Quo fans vented their Anger then and still to this day ! Personally being older I don’t mind it now. The original mix that is.

Although it's great live, I'd add Little Lady as its just awesome on OTL As for paper plane I think the old line up used to nail it in the early days Yeah MS,sybil, WSOL and LOAI all done very lazily liveI hate it when people write song names like this. I have no idea what you’re talking about I only disapprove of "Sybil". And in a literal sense too. That song, to me, has been the weak link in the band's live set for aeons (played too fast and dodgy lyrics emphasized by Francis' messing around with the vocal) and ever since Rhino has to sing Rick's parts it's even worse, as he simply doesn't have the range to do it.

I only disapprove of "Sybil". it's "Sbybil"! I felt stupid af that it took me about a day to discover that MS was Mystery Song 😩😂 Especially since it was the original topic of this thread! I bet there's some acronyms that have several meanings though. Rush fans always have to be careful because there are two Rush albums with the same initials - Permanent Waves and Power Windows. Pink Floyd had two RWs - Roger Waters and Rick Wright. Found some, LL could be Little Lady or Liberty Lane... LR can be Let's Ride or Let's Rock, and I'm sure there's more!

MS is one of those Quo songs that no one is allowed to touch with any minor criticism whatsoever. Its part of the Quo bible and will remain loved and unblemished until the end of time.
MS is quite simply a work of art. Perfection from beginning to end.

I liked - still like - the outro to the full length version. It was by no means on the money but it was Quo's rendition of/homage to funk, which was becoming a 'thing'. Wild Cherry anyone? Same year.
Quo have tended to sort of dabble with different styles - usually what's in fashion - but only ever very briefly and also with their own stamp on it. Sometimes whole songs, sometimes only parts of songs.
Accident Prone (disco), the break in Falling In Falling Out (reggae), the opening drums of Under The Influence (hip-hop); Fiji Time (ska); the list probably goes on. These are just from the top of my head.
With varying degrees of success it has to be said but it surely must relieve some of the monotony for them.

I would have loved the studio / album version to be used as the opening song live . Shit loads of dry ice etc..would have been great. I have always thought that Mystery Song would have made a great opener. Can you imagine it, the Blue For You cover beamed on the stage curtain, the lights dim, dry ice bellows from underneath the curtain, then "I See The Look On Your Face" etc played through the speakers with the partisan crowd singing every word, then the intro building up to a crescendo, then BAM, curtain drops to reveal the band in full flight. Yeah, it would have worked!
