Never been keen on live performances of SBYBIL... just seems to drag on and doesn't have the groove he album version does.
Loved the version in the Roadhouse Medley as that had speed to it and it was a small section of the track.
I agree with comments about LOAI also. It has never come close to being as good as the studio recording

Mystery Song and Wild Side Of Life. I used to be unsure about certain abbreviations, but they become easier to understand Thanks man! For Something bout you baby; to my defense, he did write sybil lmao

SBYBIL is a bit Caberet live
Mystery song in the studio is driven by Spuds propulsive drumming. One of his best

It has never come close to being as good as the studio recording I always thought Quo live and Quo in studio were two different bands, regardless of the line up Live, Quo couldn't create the emotion they could in the studio and if I'm honest, I wouldn't want them to. The only time I feel they did create that emotion was during the FF tours with MOTT. That was a very special moment, sharing it with that line up and all those people. It felt like one big family sharing a once in a lifetime moment

It felt like one big family sharing a once in a lifetime moment tbh, they had no chance of getting the groove right, live, for SBYBIL with it being a drum machine. Or triggered. The "hi-hat" has a flange / phase on it all through the song (very Prince), and watching Coghlan play along to the track, you can tell half of the fills were added afterwards. I suppose it's only like 1982 and Back To Back featuring a drum machine and Pete's Kit being triggered

Sorry MrWaistcoat Aye, even if it was written as Something About You Baby I Like it would become SAYBIL as an acronym, so there'd still only be one B English must be the best language in the world to have as a second language, as you don't have to become all that fluent to be more proficient than many for whom it is their first/only language!

Sometimes it's fun guessing what some of the song titles are through their abbreviations. Makes me feel smug and smart about myself when I get it As for Mystery Song generally, the full length version is a blistering work of art. The single version did it little justice (i.e. the public had NO idea!) but at least the video was a wee cracker. Only ever seen it performed all the way through once. By State of Quo with Ian Hill there. It was tremendous.

I know I’m in the minority but I’m not keen on the outro to the full length version.....it doesn’t suit what has gone before somehow .

I know I’m in the minority but I’m not keen on the outro to the full length version.....it doesn’t suit what has gone before somehow . With you there. You're waiting for something dramatic to happen and in come the clowns - well, to my ears, the sort of music clowns in a circus would come on to in their car, with their big feet and flowers that squirt water. Maybe just me. But the Quo boys were obviously having a right laugh to stick that on the end of the song.

I know I’m in the minority but I’m not keen on the outro to the full length version.....it doesn’t suit what has gone before somehow . I can understand that. Looking back however it was the signal of a 'ring of a change' in the band and the outro was really the outro to the classic period Quo, also signalled by the recording of the 'Live' album. At the time they were being interviewed and making clear statements that they thought they needed to, and wanted to, change, 'clean' their sound up, and looking more towards attracting an America audience. They were looking at outside producers to make this change, experimented with Dave Edmunds and also Roger Glover (on Wild Side of Life) before settling on Pip Williams. This all resulted in Rocking All Over the World... ...the country vibe, circus style outro to Blue For You was appropriate because that's where they wanted to go and did go.
