I think that Piledriver is such a great album that if they had released this and then gone away it would have been enough for me. 37 minutes, that's been all I've needed. Some of the other albums are superb but this is the best thing they ever did. Absotively! My favourite of them all. If forced to find fault with the album then the only criticism I'd make is that the shouldn't have left Softer Ride off. Although, I appreciate some people would knock a mark off for the inclusion of a cover song but it is quite an iconic cover for Quo. Yes but then you need to take another track of the album which would be incredible hard. And Hello! wouldn't be as good without it. So I'm totally fine with that desition.

The bit at 2:37 into the solo, that was it, right there....2 seconds and that was all. It actually swaggers into the solo. No one ever does that. To me [too] this is THE definitive Quo song, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it - the only one that gives me goosebumps EVERY TIME [and that's saying something 'cos so many of them, pre-'81, do!] Also, I'd point to this as the reason [imho] that JC is the only drummer that makes Quo sound like Quo - I don't know why, he just is. I don't think you would need to remove a song to fit Softer Ride on, 22 minutes per side doesn't seem too long to me. Obviously, Hello! didn't exist at the point Piledriver was released so it doesn't really come into it, especially as we don't know what they would have put on that album instead.

I’m confused, what do you mean? Softer Ride isn’t a cover......

I’m confused, what do you mean? Softer Ride isn’t a cover...... Sorry if I was unclear. I was really making three separate points about Piledriver. 1 : "My favourite of them all." Speaks for itself, I hope. 2: "If forced to find fault with the album then the only criticism I'd make is that the shouldn't have left Softer Ride off." Which, as I subsequently commented would give you an lp with each side being 22 mins. 3: "Although, I appreciate some people would knock a mark off for the inclusion of a cover song but it is quite an iconic cover for Quo." I was merely acknowledging the fact that, for some, the inclusion of a cover song [Roadhouse Blues] diminishes the standing of the album slightly.

I'm so glad you completed the exercise, photo4life, your views of those albums you rate more highly are very interesting. I'm very much a '70s Quo fan, & largely the same for most everything else! My Quo collection peters out after '81, apart from some subsequent live material pre-Live Aid & then some more from the Reunions. One point that caught my eye was your comment: "... I Know You're Leaving and Who Gets The Love aren't good enough for the album." Funnily enough, I thought they were the best two tracks on that particular album. Just goes to show how subjective these things are. Music taste is very subjective indeed. I'm not a fan of these two songs, but I like the effort put into the songs. They are well produced, even though they are far from the slower songs and ballads they did in the 70s

It seems that no matter what we put on top and in between, most of us put Aquostic II at the bottom. Whatever the reason for this, it seems that acoustic albums never go well anymore. The Unplugged trend is dying(?).

The Unplugged trend is dying(?). Speaking for myself. I haven't even listened through both of the acoustic albums. I have no interest after hearing some of the tracks. I think it was (like the cover albums) just a trick to sell more records and maybe reach another audience.

The Unplugged trend is dying(?). Just because Quo's attempts weren’t great doesn’t mean the whole sector is dying. Far from it. I suspect Quo’s attempts were a bit of a rush job and were nothing more than a couple of strum along sessions. At least that’s how they sound to me. It could have been so different if a bit more thought, care and attention had taken place. We’ve heard Rick didn’t turn up for more vocal sessions. To be fair to him I don’t think much effort was put in in general for AQ 2. I will make one exception out of both albums, POMM is fantastic. You can tell the effort was put in there. Especially arrangement wise. I don’t understand why they didn’t follow that through with the rest !

Other than original Quo albums I am not very much interested in covers or aquostic albums repeating his own songs. I have to admit that Aquostic I got me some interest and I agree with POMM (Very nice song) , the concert at the roundhouse, maybe the novelty, but whats the point of making an effortless second Aquastic album. Similar with the Covers Albums, I would have preferred they would never had relased any , I could do with 1 but 3?!!
Looking at the whole QUO discography I believe it would be more consistent or at least would give a better sense of consistecy if they had nevere released the covers and A2 albums.

Best?
Quo live.
A band at their peak.
Loud, rough, melodic, and everything else that applies to a supreme live band.
Shit hot,mustard and all that.
But I will admit I'm 60😅☺

Best: Never too late just supposin (only since lockdown I’ve been repeatedly playing this) Blue for you
Worst: Thirsty work Back to back Can’t stand the heat Aquostic 2 All the covers albums. Bula quo - not even sure I’ve listed to this. It’s the first quo album I never bought.
All the rest: depends on my mood as to what order
I understand that the song writing is less formulaic and songs spiral off into exciting new directions on the pre 77 albums which is great, but probably over familiarity mean I rarely listen to them from start to finish
Never too late is an album I never, ever get tired of playing all the way through.
