I saw him sing for Jimmy Page on the Outlander tour. He did Stairway and several other Zep classics pretty well as I remember it, so maybe not a bad voice? Don't know what the rest of his solo stuff is like but Music is a great song.

I don't think it is said in a derogatory way, and the 'spade' is actually taking the p!ss out of the rock'n'rollers - for those not familiar the full lyric is "Some spade said rock'n'rollers, you're all the same, Man that's your instrument, I felt so ashamed" (it's true story and he has lost his guitar) True enough, but do you think those who worship at the alter of political correctness would care what way it was said? Indeed!

I imagine 'Some spade said Rock n Rollers' raises a few eyebrows these days. I don't think it is said in a derogatory way, and the 'spade' is actually taking the p!ss out of the rock'n'rollers - for those not familiar the full lyric is "Some spade said rock'n'rollers, you're all the same, Man that's your instrument, I felt so ashamed" (it's true story and he has lost his guitar)

Sorry guys, disagree on all counts. Great fat, full and very appropriate bass sounds but less attack than they would get with a plectrum, In my view. Maybe you could suggest the reason rather than just disagree? There is certainly something in the type of guitar they play too. And the more remasters I hear of music recorded in the 70s the more I believe that the engineers and technology at that time was the best there was for rock music. So maybe Alan gets some help there too. As I said, I know nothing about why one bass guitar sounds different from another, but I think you have caught my drift. There was a deep, 'attack' sound to AL's bass playing, while Edwards' sounds fuller but somehow 'fatter'. Kind of like the difference between a kick drum and a kettle drum. The kettle is fuller but the kick drum has more 'attack.' If that makes any sense at all. But I do think this difference, although with the engineering, has a lot to do with why I like the sound of the original band better than today's. You got it, man, and the words you use are exactly appropriate. Love the comparison with kettle drum/bass drum - never thought of it before, but very true. And as a drummer I can tell you that for real rock attack one uses a wooden beater or tapes a (UK old) penny to the beater or the skin to get attack on the bass drum. The beater used with the kettle drum is woolly and has less attack for that reason. Neither is right or wrong, just different effects. Lemmy, naturally, plays with a plec, but breaks every other bass playing rule - and was a f*ckin' genius! [Note to self - when writing about Lemmy it is now past tense - remember at the start of the sentence, not half way thru! Nah, f*ck it, his records are still here, so he's still here!]

Howdy I write and record drum tracks and find myself between projects at the moment. So does anyone need any drum tracks? Anyone got song ideas but got nowhere to go with them? I can write the drum tracks (samples below). Alternatively, any bassists, guitarists and singers want to record some hard rockin' Quo tracks remotely? By that I mean we all do our bits on our own equipment and exchange audio files. We choose the songs (mostly FF hard rock - Paper Plane, maybe something like Pictures but recorded like Lancaster did it in Oz, how about Wild Side of Life done as Rod Stewart did it but with a Parfitt rhythm guitar [see Twod's post on the subject], Paper Plane, any CQ tracks which are a missed opportunity and need a FF sound - I'm open to suggestions). I can write the drum track, send the audio to the bassist who records the bass part separately, on to the guitarists who record their bits separately, etc.. I would happily co-ordinate and produce. If good enough, I'll take the parts to a studio and mix and master properly. Hard rockin' stuff, though. Make available for download through this site? Here's some stuff I've already done: (I also produced the videos!) The following is an un-produced drum track for Drifting Away which I may use for another project later. It has a click track and a count in of 8. soundcloud.com/ant-troman/drifting-away-quo-drumsAny interest?

Great name for a song - sounds like an 80s hair band song title!
Love this sort of stuff - Quo should have covered an occasional song like this. Imagine it Quo'd up with Parfitt behind it!
Love Rocket 88 too.

Always thought it was a city or region in the States but Uncle Google doesn't find anything. Interesting!
Great song in the studio version but much better live!
Love Mr 'untah

Geezer Butler and Steve Harris have plenty of punch with finger playing. Same goes for John Deacon. Took the words out of my mouth. Cliff Burton & Robert Trujillo too. Sorry guys, disagree on all counts. Great fat, full and very appropriate bass sounds but less attack than they would get with a plectrum, In my view. The main reason, colonial cousin, is that Alan plays with a plectrum and Rhino uses his fingers. Plectrums give punch and fingering gives a 'wider' bottom end but with less punch. Not knocking Rhino at all, but I much prefer a plec. There are numerous post '86 songs which would be more in your face if a plectrum was used.

I love Quo's version of this and I love the lyric.
Wonder how many of the girls shared Tom's dressing room!
