Precious pup and pip the prod John Eden I found to be an excellent person to have on there. Pip too although I think it was a mistake given his reputation with the fans - slightly unjustifiable Pat marks was a patronising arsehole though. John Eden was great on the old board and genuinely seemed to have loved recording with Quo and enjoyed talking about his time with them. Pat Marks was there to antagonise people and I think he was eventually told by the band’s management to stop posting.

What, wait did you miss that? It was the most exciting day on the board for ages!! I’m sure if you put in the search box something about fake false bluehighway / Tony Carey you’ll find the posts!! The Bluehighway thing is still beyond strange. He never trolled, kept it up for 5 years, had very detailed replies to some posts, and more mundane, general updates on life. Last posts were talking about something happening with Rainbow if I recall, and then *poof*, varnished, like an old oak table. Plus of all the characters to choose to pretend to be. I knew who Tony Carey was and even had some music of his but why not pretend to be an ex Quo roadie or something if you wanted to be a Walter Mitty character on a Quo fan board. Still think it was maybe him and something happened to stop so suddenly but then I remember that the IP addresses were all NW of England, so likely not. It's usually one of the first things I check with members, but I just never did with this character. I think fake Tony got cold feet when a radio interview with real Tony was aired. I recall, during the interview, that TC said a number of things that contradicted what bluehighway had been saying in his posts here, such as on here bluehighway had said how high he rated Jon Lords musicianship but on the radio interview TC said he wasn’t a big fan of Lord as he had a very complicated style while Tony said he likes a more simple style. Another thing he said was that he is a great fan of country music and grew up on the stuff and loved Willie Nelson’s music along with (if my memory serves me correct)Waylon Jennings. But on here bluehighway often made a joke of country music, which actually I love. A few more things TC said on the interview just didn’t sit right with me. I often wondered if it could’ve been arranged for bluehighway to actually meet one of our board members say after one of his Soulmate’s or personal gigs that he often promoted. Anyway as I’ve said I’m positive if it really was Tony Carey then he would’ve emailed me, or even charles, or 4th Chord? as I believe he communicated with you guys too didn’t he?… just to say he’s lying low for a while. It’s a mystery that’s for sure.

I’ve never heard of Tony Carey
So we had a member posing as a little known member of a band from Rainbow for years? Wow I missed this

I'm still of the opinion that there is more than a 50% chance bluehighway was the real deal and that he kept his activity on here secret from his friends, family and colleagues. Once the original denial was made by whoever was managing his accounts it became impossible for him not to go along with it. Might well have been his wife, Marion?, who got upset by the deceit. Jeez Gran, you of all people know the danger of even considering the thought of 'C' (CONSPIRACY) surrounding this issue or we'll end up with... Tony Carey is in fact Jack The Ripper who was in fact the Duke of Clarence who was whisked forward in time by an alien spacecraft that landed in Shoreditch in 1888. Taken on board the craft crash landed at Roswell in 1947. Now known as Quarg, Carey/Ripper wandered about until a kind mid western farming family in rural Hawaii found him and taught him how to play the piano. Quarg/Carey/Ripper used his knowledge to make a time machine that allowed him to see that playing keyboards in a band would be a good earner and also allowed him to blow up the twin towers (They wouldn't play his music in the lifts) and fake the Moon landings whilst dressed in an ape like costume as he wandered around North American forests pretending to be Bigfoot. We wouldn't want any body to think that now would we Gran. Proof We regard the complex plane f(x+iy)=u(x,y)+iv(x,y).} These functions are clearly continuous and are Fréchet-differentiable and that they satisfy the Cauchy-Riemann equation integrals, finishing the proof.

Not to be confused with the Fréchet-derivative, of course. Confused? As if!

[quote author=" matt" source="/post/229883/thread" timestamp="1710629129" I once witnessed Marks holding court to a bunch of fans in a pub prior to a gig in Sheffield, explaining to them what 'Paper Plane' was about. Trouble was it bore no resemblance to what Bob Young said it was about. Bearing in mind it was Bob who actually wrote the bloody thing (along with Francis) I knew whose version I was inclined to believe. And yes, he was an arsehole on that board.

The official message board was great, but the management really sh*t on everyone when they pulled the plug with no prior warning. They seemed to shoot themselves in the foot too because I can recall someone posting a link at the time that showed that the official Quo website received some of the highest number of 'hits' for any band in the industry. Who bothers to visit that site now? Some of the characters on there were great and it was fantastic to meet some of them at pre-gig drinks. I can't actually remember many of the names now, but Teleboogie, TVQ, Crapmodem, Stateside Bob, Quoling, Christine, Large, Adrian, Rod, Quozone and Davy spring to mind (I always used to read Quoling's posts with the voice of Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons in my head! ). It was also great having people close to Quo as members: Pip, John Keeling, Rhino, John Eden. However, there was Pat Marks too! I met Pip once and he recognised me from the MB and said that my criticisms of his over-production were balanced and well made. It was a bitter-sweet moment... They were great days. Unfortunately, it all went a bit Wild West on Ricky's site; particularly when he disappeared for month's on end and there was no-one moderating!! You certainly had to have your wits about you.

He made some comments about Quo fans in one (presumably drunken) tirade. Something about us being sad old men in worn out denim. His account and posts had disappeared the following day.
