Not sure if anyone here remembers it, but there used to be a message board forum on Quo's official Web site.
Rhino used to have a regular spot on there where he would post stuff about his ventures within the band etc at the time.
It seemed to vanish over night a few years back now, but why did it go?

Short answer - Frantic Four reunion v Quo Lite v Bula Quo and old v new, with Lots of negativity on the official site, maybe too much. Quo + management didn't want the continuous bad vibe coming off their board, so they pulled it.

I also remember this, it was around 2012-2013 somewhere between Hello Quo coming out and when the frantic four announced A tour, there were massive arguments between fans and disrespectful comments about what was then “the current line up” and all the backlash from fans was personally why I think Matt Letley left
It made a few stories in the papers too!

Matt Letley left the band due to a backlash of fans? I can't think why as he brought the band back to life at the time.

I would imagine most on here remember the official message board from Quo's site, because that's where the majority of us came from when this one had to spring up. It did end due to the perceived negativity at the time of the reunions or just after it, can't quite remember exactly when it was pulled now, but I do remember an article appeared in one of the national newspapers, I think it was to do with the Bula Quo movie, basically saying something like the fans on Quo's own message board had given it a big thumbs down or something and were questioning what they were doing etc. I'm sure someone might remember or have a link to the article, might have been the Sun or Mirror I think. I think that was probably what did it in for the old board, the fact a negative kind of story appears in a newspaper on the back of comments from folk on the bands own message board. On the flip side though, I remember when In Search Of The Fourth Chord came out, and it was through the message board and fans on there together with a passion for the band and music, that Rhino's Bad News got up to #1 on HMV's download chart I think it was at the time, which Quo's website actually posted about as news if I remember right. I never got involved and never will get involved with any of the personal insults that went on the old board, no need, either to each other or towards the band. I'm here for the music, the chat about the music past and present, the band and everything that goes with it from riffs, songs, tours, the sound, track listings, album covers to a covers album. Be strong in your opinions yes, but just agree to disagree and move on to the next topic, same in life. Have a debate by all means, listen to others, give your reason for why you think like you do, you will either convert others to join you, you will be converted yourself through someone's reasons and method of persuasion or you go opposite ways. Fine. There has been many times with all kinds of things where I hold a particular opinion about something, only to change later on. What's that quote? Something like "when the facts change, I change". Football's brilliant for it, the amount of times I scream "that's a penalty", only to see the replay and say "no, it's not a penalty". I was torn a little bit around the time of the reunion gigs, in terms of feelings towards the then current line up and then FF, I like both and was just glad the reunion was taking place. Where I will concede to Francis a little is on the energy and physicality of the current Quo, at the time of the reunions, but that is/was down to circumstance rather than anything else. Alan deserved a medal for getting through those tours, it was pretty clear his health wasn't great and so I accept it was never really going to be able go on and on. As much as I like John Coghlan, John isn't as ferocious a drummer as he was in the 1970's either, might be controversial to some, but I think it's valid, Madrid 1975 footage proves it in my view, not a criticism, just my observation and where I will give ground to Francis a little, but you take 1970's Quo and transport them to a stage now, they will blow most away for energy and that's without anything plugged in. My belief however, is that a big problem at the time of the reunions, was simply that the frantic four line up and whole reunion project had no time to breathe and there was, in the end, clear resistance from Francis. What do I mean by no time to breathe? I mean it was crammed between current Quo's schedule, rather than in place of, then there was a flaky film thrown right into the middle of it, when the fans wanted some new FF recorded material for example. I feel that for 12 months to 2 years, had it just been about the FF, the reunions, remembering the past, enjoying the new moments and gigs turn into new memories, without current Quo and that film, I really do think there wouldn't have been all the negativity that crept in like it did. It really felt at the time like, to me at least, like management and maybe Francis or maybe just Francis, really wanted it all over as quickly as possible. So as I said, I don't think it was allowed any room to breathe, but I'm grateful I got to see it happen and grateful to them all for doing it, with what's happened since it would have been a real real shame had they not done what they did. As for the old board, it's all just myth and legend now!

Great post, Xland, and pretty much bang on 👍 Well, from my point of view anyway. Others will differ no doubt. And that's how it should be. And most of us on here have, ahem, spawned from that message board. Funnily enough, I wasn't online when it closed down and I didn't know until maybe a week later. So I missed all the backlash that led to it. Although I can easily imagine. I also never thought about that 12-month to 2-year period where they crammed in tours with both line ups and a couple of movies. Rather than take time over each project, it was all a bit rushed in retrospect. We can go into each aspect (the reunion(s), Bula Quo!, Matt leaving etc) but these are separate topics in their own right. The bottom line is, that old message board created a community - quite a big one. But that social media disease where people can't or won't control themselves, because they have the power of the keyboard/keypad, reared it's head just like it always will.

I do miss the messgae board. It drove traffic to quos site as well
As I remember the universal acclaim for the reunions mixed with the appalling timing three weeks later of bula quo and its universal rejection led to its closure.

As I remember it, the old message board had indeed become a bit tense with certain keyboard warriors spoiling it. The majority of us were there for the love of the music and the posts from when the Hello Quo movie was rumoured to the fulfilment of the first reunion tour were a frenzy of excitement. Unfortunately it did split some fans into two camps (current v FF) and as has been said, some people took it too far, resorting to hateful comments and insults. It came to a head after the first reunion tour had finished about April 2013. There was a lot of negative talk about the forthcoming Bula Quo film and something was posted about the death of Margaret Thatcher. I don’t know what was said but apparently it was so disturbing that the post was deleted and shortly afterwards the whole message board went down. The management had obviously decided enough was enough but it was so sad that they closed it without any warning. It was indeed a community and a lot of fans had made friends with others online. At its best, it was a brilliant online record of a magical time for us and our idols but all of that was lost in an instant. Although I do vaguely remember someone had some screenshots saved and asked others to send so they could be archived. This was either on Ricky’s board or 4th Chord ‘s I think….? Both were heroically set up quickly after the demise of the original board but most members went with the former. When that started to go the same way, the cupsncafe board was set up and then when Ricky’s board went even more toxic, luckily we had this one to come back to, to continue discussing all things Quo. Thank you 4th! 🙂
