Well, here's an anecdote. Some years ago, a recording made of their set at Sweden Rock Festival 2013 was aired via Deutschlandfunk. Not a whole gig, just shortened to an hour. The presenter was obviously not a big Quo expert but pointed out in his announcement the track's unusualness. He lauded that it's more demanding than the rest of their set, with a considerable musical humour. Make of that what you will, but that's how somebody who's clearly not very educated in all things Quo reacted to The Oriental. I admit I'm not so hot on the lyrics, although some parts I do find amusing like "I take a shower on every hour" or "Don't send me a Russian, ain't no discussion"! I once tried playing it at the piano but realized just how stupid those lyrics sounded when I tried to sing them. It takes somebody like Francis to make it work... It doesn’t work. At least not for me. If anyone including the band finds it funny it reflects on them. Doesn't work for me either. For me it's one of the worst songs they ever made

Musically it's quite interesting and a bit different, but the lyrics ruin all of that. They obviously enjoy playing it, and dynamically it's probably fun and challenging for them to play.

I doubt after nearly 20 years it’s ‘challenging’ to play. It is a bit different but not in a good way for me. I was going to type I’d rather they played something else. But as I no longer go to see them they can play it forever. Not that they were going to ask me anyway.
