Hey you guys,
It seems that some people have already heard the Backbone album and not happy. That makes me a little sad but it is more important that the band are enthusiastic.
It can't be that they write songs that please everyone as that is not how artists work. It is what came around when 5 fabulous musicians came together to write and record. As Frame has always said it isn't 1975 anymore.
The rock songs are in the set already and going down well at gigs. The other songs might or might not work as well live if they are poppy and feature more experimental sounds like Thirsty Work did at the time.
Maybe we should just find out for ourselves and not be overly influenced by those who have already got the promo copies. I think it will be a nice blend of styles but we will see in due course.
See you out there somewhere soon...

It would be interesting to know who has actually heard the album and who is just going on industry gossip. Certainly the two people on here who will definitely have heard it will be keeping their own council.
I was talking to a highly respected reviewer over here in Germany and he said it's without doubt their best album since '81. Not that that will stop the negativity on here. Approaching it with an open mind would make a refreshing change.

Part of the issue is with a band of Quo’s age is how many times have fans been promised the ‘best album since’? This is not an issue Status Quo faces but common with bands with a long history. They haven’t put out a stinker apart from Bula Quo this century. It’s not my cup of kool aid on the whole but I will give it a listen. I do wonder if Richie will take a lead vocal ? These days I have so much music to listen to. Spoil for choice. I will wait and see.

Go back to your legendary Row for Quo post to see what I mean.Hilarious stuff.

Or why not record with Lancaster and Coghlan and make something approaching a real Quo album?
And I'm not somebody who grew up with the Frantic Four, I'm an American who only discovered the band in 2014, but the difference is blatantly obvious. The band needs a real bass player and a real drummer. And for God's sake they need to quit having Rhino sing.

Hey Bill, well I’m guessing there’s not going to be a Colonel Rhino in your new book!😉

Well, I heard two songs so far, one that I don;t like and one sounding ok. As I said before I am not gonna judge the album before I heard it completely. Two songs is simply to little to judge an album on for me.

But the pretty good half is sometimes really good. That's what I'm hoping for here.

It would be very nice if it could turn out to be something like UTI or QPQ I'd take either one. Or even ISOTLC. Hell, I'll take TPAOY. Four or five good songs to learn and sing along to. I don't expect Quo, or even 1982 (which I actually think is better than it gets credit for). Just a good rock album.
