Listened again on a long drive this morning and it’s even better than it was yesterday ! Ridiculously enjoyable.
They were never this direct again and never sounded this good
One thought. Clearly Francis felt that the songs were all sounding the same so later tried to really change things. There were such a lot of “heavy” fans then. Did they become afraid of being diverse like on the older albums? I gather they had a huge backlash to roatw and heat. The diversity ended after that.
Rick thought “fans all want an album of rockers Rollin”. And to be fair, at that time that was 100% what me and my mates wanted.

Rick thought “fans all want an album of rockers Rollin”. And to be fair, at that time that was 100% what me and my mates wanted. Though the album was less diverse as such and more straight ahead rock, it still had plenty of melody in the vocals across the board which we know Rossi craves. Can still hear his country/folk vocal lilt in some of the songs and made him and Quo different from the shouty frontmen of other rock bands. Personally think the album would have been even better with the inclusion of a more traditional Quo style blues based track though there were still surprises within tracks such as 'Long Ago' and tempo changes etc Whether the band were conscious of the metal bands on their heels at this moment in time is debatable but the album may have brought the band to the attention of the new generation of rock and metal fans. Have been thinking about what curious girl and frozen hero had been discussing in the thread about Alan's musical direction. Hard to pin down where he was going. It certainly seemed to be a more AOR direction at this time to me and he didn't usually write the more blues and shuffles. Though with 1982 he was back to 1950s style rock n roll tunes. Big Man is arguably AOR though.

Always thought "mountain" lady was a metaphor for that unreachable or aloof female. Whilst you are on a roll gav, can you do an analysis on Johnny Cash's song 'Mountain Lady' ?!!

One of my favourite albums from them. I don't know what it has, but I really like this album.
Except Enough is Enough and Long Ago, I love everything from it (well, except those high-pitched vocals too. Hope John Eden can remix that album too and remove the backing vocals and get the synths lowered in the mix).

...and not to leave Andy Bown out of things, one more photo taken in the control room with John Eden. Although Andy is a Hammond man at heart he sometimes used synths with Quo such as the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 as seen in this picture.

Think we were lucky to get the Rockin' re-mix with all that was involved for those involved, so not sure I would bet on a NTL re-mix anytime soon. Those backing vocals didn't bother me too much at the time strangely, but I can now hear how distracting they are and unnecessary in the scheme of things.

Love reading all the different opinions so far ! Fretbuzzzzzz, the backing vocals...yea, I had the same, they never bthered me too much but whther they were nessecary is indeed a good point. The backing vocals were more irritating on 1982 I think, but again that album will be covered later

Evening "fb", do you mind telling us all where you dug these previously (to me anyway), unseen photos from Windmill Studios from?

I've seen a few of these before Edit; yes they are One with the red and yellow Quo logo www.nickparsons.co.uk/status_quo_fan_club_magazine_archive.html

Okay I suppose. This confirmed that the days of 71-76 were gone forever. One or two good bits with Riverside being the standout track.Never liked Mountain Lady.I like the title track but dislike the production as usual. Why mess about with a winning formula?
