Thanks all! Got a message at about 4.00 this afternoon that a friend had a spare ticket! Woo hoo, I've never seen Deep Purple before. I didn't know many of the songs but really enjoyed them and especially the last 3 obviously - Smoke, Hush and Black Night. Looks like ptquo was there as well (as posted in his other thread) I immediately thought the same when Ian dedicated a song to the memory of their beloved Jon Lord... I think it was called The Uncommon Man.

Had the chance to see them in 2010 with Quo on the 'Double Trouble' tour here in Oz but sadly missed it at the last minute. Have a great time Viv.

[ Paice looked rough in the 70's 🤔 Ian "One Gallon" Gillan is morphing into William Shatner. Still, they gave us "Machine Head". No man alive can live without that album. Yep, and three originals from way back when..... And they salute missing members.... oh.. don't get me started..

And they salute missing members.... oh.. don't get me started.. Surely Paice is the only original member now &, I think, the only man to be in all line-ups. As I recall it was just Paice & Lord that had that honour, but that all changed with the sad loss of the late great Jon Lord.

The MK:s before Glover and Gillan are not so interesting in my POV, sorry.

The MkII line up was the classic line up that really made the Deep Purple name - same as the Mk II line up made the Status Quo name. However, I have to admit my favourite "Purple" album is Come Taste The Band from the MkIV line up - which is probably akin to showing a preference for In The Army Now!

It was a different angle on the Purple legacy, I have it, but I was lost into the Rainbow world by then... Mr. Blackmore, how odd he may be, sure could treat the guitar in a very special way, when he wanted to.

Maybe for them the music was still as important as ‘getting publicity’......

It has an excellent companion album. Days may come and go, or something like that is the guitarists audition and jam sessions. Lovingly curated. It’s not my favourite but like it. Just rarely hits my turn table.
