Is that because of the Blue vinyl of Piledriver that HMV had for fathers day?

The album that did it for me.From the cover onwards a great album. It took me ages to hear it all because I played every track over and over again 'til it was time to move on to the next one.

Aye, still my favourite - although I've always been a bit puzzled by the exclusion of Softer Ride from the track list, it would have still only been 45 minutes long.

I read in the liner notes that PILEDRIVER was released on 15th December 1972.
It is a very special album in the history of, well, history itself.
It should be mentioned in the same sentence as Ziggy and Harvest and Dark Side of the Moon and Tapestry which are all iconic albums.
It is seminal and influential.
All The Reasons and Unspoken Words and A Year break the album up and show that QUO were pure class and not LAME BRAINS.
Big Fat Mama should be on high rotation on every Rock station all the time.
From blurred memory, QUO played it on their 2000 Australian Tour, I was delirious with joy. Parfitt was phenomenal!!
When I went to my cousins house in 1972 I went thru his record collection and saw School's Out, Cosmos' Factory and Piledriver.
My brain took a double take because I'd heard Matchstickmen and Down The Dustpipe years earlier and I thought could this be the same band?
I mean there were 3 guys holding their guitars leaning forward with their long hair hanging down ( down )
It was a watershed moment I'll never forget.
This is the GREATEST ROCK BAND I've ever heard, I love them more than words can say, tears are rolling down my face right now, I love STATUS QUO!!!!

Down Down got me hooked into Quo way back... then I bought On The Level ... then saw Quo live in'75. After that bought the albums Quo and Piledriver .... halfway through Big Fatty I thought I was in heaven!! ... till I heard Slowtrain on Quo.

Aye, still my favourite - although I've always been a bit puzzled by the exclusion of Softer Ride from the track list, it would have still only been 45 minutes long. My understanding (may be wrong!) is that the song was knocked up quickly and came later than the other songs on the album. The rest of Piledriver (as I understand it) was worked on collectively for a long time. I think SR was therefore felt to be different, and perhaps hadn't "bedded in" like the others. I think I read somewhere that they were thinking of holding it back for a b side My best guess is that by the time Hello! was being recorded, they realised it was a great track. It certainly fits like a glove a Hello Can you tell me....is it the original recording on Hello!, or did they knock out another one during the Hello! sessions? Cheers

Cheers As ghb says, the version on Hello! sounds the same as the Paper Plane b-side which was released about a month before Piledriver. However, it's possible that Softer Ride was recorded to be the b-side & it was already too late to add it to the running order for the album.
