Anyway... shouldn't this thread be in Songs and Records....? Hi All, Viv - Who asked yooooo!!!!........
Like all albums from whatever artist/band you take the rough with the smooth surely ? I have said this before no band can be 100% and produce material of the same quality 100% of the time. Quo simply adapted to the ever changing music tastes and industry even the best musical ability in the world can produce the odd dud, Not every album is a cracker/Not every track is a cracker, Not every musical era's are crackers etc.etc.etc.
Bands/Musicians just simply cannot keep producing better and better material because of the influences that constantly change all the time. While IYCSTH me be a more produced album than Quo usually did it still works to me it was just another Quo album just that simple.
FR has stated the fans do not influence the band, I would assume especially their creativity, like I said they have adapted to stay in the limelight unfortunately not to the fans liking that's just life sadly, all we can do is express a difference of opinions. Like many on the forum I much prefer FF era music to what has come after the split they changed and not for the better IMHO....
As for the album I like it and accept it for what it is, we all have a different view on the album and the tracks which is a common thread for us forumites...........
Geoff.

`Yea, lots of things I recognize in your post Geoff It is true that bands change. Bands either evolve or devolve. And whatever you think is evolving or devolving is in the eye of the beholder mostly. Some of it has to do with at what point you exactly became known with Quo. Fo me it was 1978. Loved RAOTW and IYCSTH, but when I heard the back catalog I was totally amazed ! of course then I heard how RAOTW and IYCSTH were a change from that. WYW, JS and NTL were changes of course too from the old. But for me very acceptable ones. For ne they were evolving into something that sounded like a good change I could live with and still sounded rocking enough. The beginning of the end was the high pitched background voices nonsense that started with Shady Lady on WYW. But still aceptable had it not evolved in to more nonsense following, changes that sounded like a devolving band instead of an evolving one to me. I could still even accept parts of 1982...but after that it's never been the same and for me sadly enough never came close to the old glory again. NTL is still my favorite album, together with Hello and DOTH. The thing for me is this. I don't mind bands changing and evolving an growing...as long as the changes sound like good ones to me. UTI and QPQ have their moments I like... but nothing will ever approach tat time again

I like Again and Again, Someone show me.. And the Al song.
Producer needs a word wi himsen then though..sheesh
Could happily have lived without the horns, slightly overblown synths and 3 degrees backing vocals.
Good guitar work though

I love IYCSTH. I think it is one of their strongest albums from a melodic point of view. And a really stunning production that sounds extremely full next to RAOTW. A lot of keys, but most of them are bona fida rock organs - long before the naff crap that came later. And it possesses one of Frame's top 5 guitar moments... the solo in LAGG. And also, LAGG has one of their best ever outros. In general Frame was on fire on this LP, technically speaking. I'd love to hear this album John-Eden-remixed without the brass and backing vocals - not because they are bad, but just because it might be even better. Excellent cover concept too. As you are a musical aficionado that rather re-affirms my own thinking of earlier that I wasn't imagining that Quo were suddenly deserted back in 77/78 because of this album and its predecessor.
I'm not qualified about any of the technical abilities, but it still sounds a fresh and vibrant album to me these days even if I might have a bias because I started seeing them live in 77.

Maybe (together with RAOTW) their least good album of the 70's but better than anything of post 81. Some ok songs like LMF, LLL and GTYTLM and some less good songs like IGUMW and SSMH. The big problem isn't the songs though. The horns and female backing vocals are totally unnecessary. I'm not very keen on the solo tone in some of the songs, it's terrible, especially on AP. The tone should be more like the solo of LLL. The flanger effects of the drums on AP is another thing that ruins that song. My hope is on the John Eden Remix.

Excellent cover concept too. yes it was the use of the Aphex Aural Exciter, relatively new at the time, that gave the album that full sound

It took them a few years to release his RAOTW remix after him convincing them to let him do it first of all. He would probably like to Remix IYCSTH, JS and NTL but it's up to Rossi essentially
