I was looking at the songs that these two wrotted( in tribute to Ernie Wise) and I was surprised to find that very few were not pretty good stuff, some crap of course but all Quo members did the same.Looking at them I find hard it to buy into Rossi's moving away from the hard rock road statement..Riverside is a fcukin pounding track and some tracks that Frost was involved in are songs a lot of board members really like. With this in mind I have removed Bernie from my "They Fucked Up My Favourite Band" list leaving Pip Williams,Francis Rossi,Simon Porter fighting for poll position with Williams in the lead...by a fcuking mile.

Not about Bernie Frost as a song writer. He was involved in some great songs. Look at A Year for example....
It appears to me that Rossi stopped taking on the help of arranging his songs after a certain period of time and thought he could do it all himself.....I have no problem with his country stuff because back when it was good, you had all the members contributing to their strengths to the song, thus making it a great song....The bass lines in Claudie and Dirty Water, Rick's playing on DW, The Bass and Drums on SSMH, The Bass line and Guitar work in Unspoken Words, The Bass line in RnR...They all added their unique styles to the songs and it certainly felt like a band effort, despite what the credits may say
But, at some point, Rossi thought he was Mozart and that turned to shit. I get the impression he wouldn't let anyone in on songs like BQ, Looking Out For Caroline, MT, Sail Away etc and he told them what to play. A lot of Rhino's similar bass lines suggest this but, when it came to stuff like Solid Gold, Movin On, etc, you could feel it was the members of the band doing what they wanted and as if Francis just said, "Meh yeah do what you want with this one"
Williams I'm sure was just doing what he was told to do...For better or worse. To give the guy his credit, he begged the RC not to release Perfect Remedy

I agree. The producer just does his job, does what he was brought in to do, and if it's not deemed to be what the band or Record Company want then it doesn't get released. Everybody (so I heard) liked RAOTW and thought they had a great record; Pip just did what he was brought in to do, and he did it well. The song RAOTW was actually Rick's idea.

It is a great record but I wanted the same thing as before and the only visible difference was poor old Williams so I blame him.The real reason it was never the same was Lancaster going to OZ.

They were trying to break America with RAOTW and that's why the sound was so bad. The AOR trend was for the records to sound the same across the board. So they went for the "sound" that would give them airplay in America and it did not work but it also annoyed a lot of the UK fanbase.

See, we say that but... I've lost track of the amount of people in bands, who live continents apart from each other, but still manage to produce the goods. That and we look at the time frame. It was essentially, album/tour/album tour/ so by my reckoning, he'd have spent fuck all time in Oz compared to his studio and Gigging commitments. I can't for the life of me begin to even imagine what was the one defining thing that made it go tits up but, I can't help but think it falls at the feet of Francis. There is just so much evidence.

Yeah, that never sat well with me at all. The other three never were like that. I'll be very honest here, I too thought maybe Alan moving kick started it but, then I realised it would only have been 1980 when he was there for a sustained period of time, so it can't be that. Plus, members of bands live worlds apart and still make it work. There are just too many quotes, admissions and stories, even from Francis himself, that just makes me feel the way I do.... Shame too. I used to respect and admire him so much

But I inderstood why he went but it STARTED the rot no doubt about it. And FW too easily swayed regarding how easy it would still have been. Your judgement is clouded because you haven't experienced pre IT / Internet.. pre digital recording ! And he wasnt prepared to keep travelling over here either !

Oh so you know for a fact he wanted the whole band and entire management to move there do you? Have you got the quote from Alan himself? Please share it with us so. Learn new facts every day. Can't wait to see it. And no, it didn't start the rot. I could throw a list of bands at you, whose members live in different continents, that are still together to this day, but that's not going to wash with you and you'll blatantly ignore it. He wasn't prepared?! Haha yeah OK....6 world tours, hundreds of TV appearances, 7 albums but yeah, he wasn't prepared to keep travelling over to England, never mind the whole of Europe, between 1977 and 1985

Please do, I think we'd all be most interested. My guess is they all either don't tour regularly and/or live within a 12 hr flight of one another.

Only 3, Brian? and they are hardly regular touring bands. Keep up the good work, mate. You obviously have never done a long haul flight from the UK to Australia or NZ, have you. It's a 25-30 hr journey + the jet lag... Yeah, Brian living in Miami, Cliff in England and The Youngs in Oz. Were a regular touring and recording band up until 2003...So you're the one talking out of your arse. U2, The Edge living on the other side of America. Album out in 2015, another out this year. Toured in 2015 and touring this year...You were saying about not regularly touring? I suppose though these other bands never recorded and toured as much as Quo. So that would have made the travel much worse. Plus as Alan said they never ate properly at the time. That would make me more irritable. BTW 111 what's with the laughing after the name Brian??. Nothing funny about the name.
