If Lynsay is to be believed, behind today's reports of a woman left with nothing, it sounds like Ricks last months, weeks and days were a time of depression, tablets and drinking. Describes an incident of falling out of bed which may have caused the shoulder injury. I hate to read this as this is what is suspected.
But this is what maddens me, the band would have known how vulnerable Rick was, and the impact of carrying on regardless was no doubt contributing to his well being. Shame on all involved with SQ, they should have been there for him.

Mate, I usually agree and enjoy your threads but I've got to disagree with you on this one as in at what point does Quo have over Ricks private life. He obviously loved the good life but for every positive there's usually a negative. I'm very sure that Francis would've had many words to him about cutting back on his supposed extremes but the only one to who can do anything about it was Rick.Do you really believe Lindsay would appreciate for the band to step into their marriage troubles and offer advice... you've got to be kidding me.

If all this is true then Quo have to keep going in spite of what we might think about it. Those kids are going to need every penny and one way will be for Status Quo LTD to keep the money coming into the Parfitt estate. They will be entitled to any money made and it will go to them.

It's pretty much like what happened with Steve Clark and Def Leppard... He had his alcohol abuse issues, went to rehab and then continued abusing shortly after... They was trying to record an album and essentially having an alcoholic guitarist around whilst you have a deadline to meet with the record label, all they could do was send him home and hope that would set him straight, but he died.
Rick was taken off tour because he was told not to perform any more by doctors cause it could cause further risk.... He just went into a self destructive mode of abusing pills (as the article says), and without anyone around to stop him other than Lyndsay which clearly was no use... he continued and thats what lead up to his fatal end

Very true, the more you read the more you have to accept that Rick together with Francis, Alan and John were one of the finest bands this country will ever produced, however as individuals they, like the rest of us had their failings. You just hope that common sense will prevail here and that some agreement can be made whereby some sort of support is offered, assuming that this article is factually accurate, the fact it is from the Daily Mail always leaves that open to question in my mind

I have said for years if he was forced off the road he would not be able to cope. Sadly it's come true, yes we can all bash Francis for carrying on but I suspect he's been banging his head against a brick wall with Rick for years. He knew him better than Rick knew himself why else would he say to Lyndsay. "Get out now while you can."

The "Get out while you can" line was the one that resonated with me, again assuming it's true it speaks volumes, i'm not FR fiercest supporter but you do get the impression that underneath all the annoying playful b*llocks he comes out with is someone who's lead the life of rock n roll excess, left that behind and in doing so realised what a complete waste of time - and money it all is, sadly it seems Rick carried on with the self destruction right to the bitter end!

Yes it would have been great to have them continuously do a small tour every year but quite frankly those tours got Rick back to his old ways and they are what started his downfall... There's an interview from around late 90's early 2000's were I think Rick said something along the lines of 'I live my life how I want to live it'. I'll have to try and find the source

I'll have to try and find the source To be fair, those two statements hardly go together. He wanted to live the way he wanted to in 2000, yet the brief FF reunion caused him to go back to his bad old ways? Besides by that time he was in his mid sixties. If he wanted to live his life the way he wanted to, it wouldn't matter if he was with the FF or playing Aquostic from the comfort of his rocking chair. Back to the article, whatever it's source, is always going to be a matter of conjecture. What I've always thought is that, in their own ways, neither Rick nor Francis were particularly nice people. Charming maybe, but Rick has shagged around by his own admission for donkeys years, especially going back and forward between his wife harem, and they have welcomed his with open arms every time he's run back to them. So they have only themselves to blame. In the Quo biographies he's always talked about his spending, by his own admission it was reckless. He wasn't going to change his spots. I do feel sorry for his young kids.

I think this is true and Rhino has just about confirmed it in his tourlog. When he said it was a matter of when not if, regarding his next Heart Attack.
