John announced at the gig last night that two new songs have been part recorded by Rick and Alan and all that's needed is for John to finalize his parts and they will be released.
The crowd was going mildly bonkers at this point but I'm pretty sure I heard it correctly!

Sounds good, maybe they should ask Francis if he'd like to add some guitars or vocals or both to the mix.

Hi All, Steve, While I like the idea and it could be the perfect tribute I can't help thinking he shouldn't. After all it was because of Francis not wanting to be part of this that the PLC idea came into existence as he said about the reunion tours "It was nostalgic"......

I agree but........ If Francis suggested to Rick that he and the others should play as PLC,then it means that Francis knew where Rick's heart lay musically, especially after Rick's comments regarding Aquostic 2. As a small but magnificent gesture to his friend of 50 years,Francis should be invited to play on these two tracks and I'm certain that even as impossible as Francis is sometimes,he'd be willing to give a farewell gift to his old mucker.

I personally would not favour Francis being part of this and ruining it by making it into some type of mediocre CQ type pastiche/rubbish. Better that it remain as Status Quo PLC.
He is someone I really admired and still love what he did within the confines of Status Quo up until 1976 and a few things after (i.e. CQ for last 30+ years is not Quo in my opinion). Not any more however.
I would not buy or attend any thing that involves him for musical wise and in terms of human traits he is very low in my estimation.

Francis giving something for free? Too late for that I'm afraid. Wouldn't want him to sing either, let's see what Alan can do. Credibility and legacy went out of the window a long time ago. Harsh? Maybe, but it's how I see it now.

Maybe, but it's how I see it now. I do understand where you are coming from and it's something I feel a bit double about... Maybe the best is indeed to leave him out of it...on the other hand, it depends a bit on how he would be involved and there is certainly truth in what Curiousgirl and Kachunk mentioned above... if he did for instance background vocals as a second harmony voice it could work... I think the main thing is to make sure it doesn't turn into a "Francis in the foreground" thing again. This was Ricks' John's and Alan's idea so Rossi if involved should know his place in it if he is involved. Rick and/or Alan should definitely have the lead vocals !

Been thinking a bit more about it... and I have to say I am most inclined to think it's probably best if Rossi just stays out of it. I am too worried that he would turn it into his thing again.

And that's the prob for me cos I am not sure at all Rossi wouldn't try to turn it into his own thing

This is awkward as in the circumstances it should really be all about Rick. I'm assuming that if they were his songs for his solo album, he will have sung the lead vocal. If Francis wanted to add a guitar solo, perhaps that would be fitting but no vocals in my opinion. Maybe the collaboration with John and Alan on these two tracks would have led to further plans to write and record more together but we'll never know now.
