I'm not saying that. Of course there were people that bought it because of the music, but they are in the minority. I'm saying the main reasons it sold so well is because it was close to Christmas and the band took their clothes off. Yeah, I get what you are implying. I'm only saying that with your logic, we could say that the only reason Thriller sold the way it did was because of people buying it as birthday gifts and Christmas presents. The shocking truth revealed : marketing works!

But the logic is correct, otherwise Quo would constantly be having Gold certified albums. They're not. It's correct to an extent. Of course the marketing worked, but - what I'm arguing here is that you are implying that people didn't buy it for the music.

I guess this is the end. But...for many, Quo ended decades ago anyway. What is telling is that Rick wasn't keen on the acoustic stuff, contrary to what Francis has often said. I just find it incredulous that Francis can carry on, electric or acoustic, and still get away with calling his outfit Status Quo!! I just can't comprehend the public accepting it but they do. I simply wouldn't if it was another band in this situation and i was a casual observer. How does he and management get away with this stuff? Kudos to them that they do, from a marketing/business perspective but I can't get over it.
There is much more Rick wants to say in this interview but he is obviously holding back at the protection of his 50 year friendship with Francis. Fair enough I guess.
I can only hope, yes, pray, that this acoustic stuff just dies a death and we hear no more from the name Status Quo. The name does not deserve to be carried on by one man.

Don't think it is as black & white as people make out. Francis didn't want to the film, he didn't want to the acoustic album and I don't think he wanted to appear in Coronation Street. The Quo Christmas song, was (partly) a RP composition and I won't go into his earlier Christmas attempt. In the interview Rick says that although he won't be performing he still has an interest in Quo. To me that is financial and it is RICK's interest to keep the money coming in from Quo recordings/gigs. For promoters it is safer to have a product will turn up & do the work. How long will an acoustic Quo last?Likely not that long, the casual fan wants the hits and will tire of acoustic shows quite quickly. A final electric tour, an acoustic one and a few bits & pieces WITH Rick's blessing will pull in the bit of ready cash for the main shareholders. Once the existing commitments have been fulfilled, and maybe a few other lucrative ones and then that is the end with royalties being collected in and shared out. Both RP & FR will more or less go their separate ways. FR will likely find enough to keep him occupied, pottering around the house/garden, his family, some producing/writing and maybe the odd solo show/tour. RP, I worry more about, he really hasn't much produced any written material for a while, (third) marriage (apparently) on the rocks, young kids in a different country, with their mum. Health not too great and previous indications suggest an addictive personality. He has previously tried business ventures - the game didn't really take off, don't think Facelift/Rockano I the great hit that was hoped for. The was was property venture in Spain but no idea what the deal was there. I wish Rick and Francis the best and I hope Rick's health is good and bad someh finds peace and contentment. ..and hope theres no sad news comin bout rocker. When gets too bored.. .

It says in the link, full interview in the mag, Classic Rock. Maybe there is more. Or maybe that is also a marketing angle.

I was debating going to the Manchester show in December as it was the last time they'd tour 'loud and proud'. Having heard this sad yet not unexpected news I'm glad I didn't bother getting a ticket and that the 2014 Frantic show at the Manchester Apollo was my finale. That's the best way for me to remember them.
Hope Rick recovers enough to do some solo stuff and that Francis remains happy with his lot. Been quite a journey and sad it's ended this way...

I think this has been on the cards for some time. Rick wanted to bow out next year with a 50th Anniversary tour. They were supposed to retire the band at the end of the year. Francis and Rick both planned solo albums.
But Ricks health has meant he didn't get the swan song he richly deserved. But Ricks health scare has changed the future. Francis has decided now he will continue Status Quo. More Aquostic, an Aquostic tour and maybe a return to the Rick format. Rick says whatever he won't be returning.
Haven't w been here before, Francis says it's ending, he jettisons the band member unhappy with the bands direction and continues.
Well the ship sailed long ago for me. So I am indifferent to the events.
This is how I will remember them. Great night. The return of the magic four.

Rick has behaved like a gentleman. He has given Francis no opportunity to fall out with him. I expect Francis will greatly appreciate that. Neither of them need the aggro.

I am glad that I had the opportunity of seeing the FF in both 2013 and 2014.
Unfortunately I then decided to see CQ in Dec 14 - I knew then in my heart it was over - the difference between the two gigs was vast & the energy in CQ had gone - they appeared to be going through the motions.
My heart hopes that Rick, Alan & John now do something together. My head says it is unlikely to happen, but you never know.
I think Rick should now sit down and write his autobiography -it would be one hell of a read!
I don't have any interest in more acoustic albums or concerts. AQ1 was ok as a one-off, but not something that should be repeated or the direction of the band going forward.
Quo has been a constant throughout my life in whatever guise and I will miss them.
It all started for me with JS in 1980.... been some ride!
Thanks for the memories.

Hi All, LF, If as you say he doesn't then why all the negativity ? It's his history he set up the band with Alan etc.etc.etc. He should be embracing that history because it's the bands most successful era of iconic music produced, not saying this that or the other then changing his mind in whatever interview for magazine or documentary.
He has in the past said one thing then contradicted himself, which I will be honest we have all more than likely done at some point in our life. None the less if he doesn't hate that era why then was their no third reunion tour ? A new FF Album or at the least an EP ? failing that a FF/CQ new material dbl album ? unless it was management stopping it. He is the leader surely he could just say hold on if I want this I will have it, he seems to have done this with the band since their reformation after the record company waved the contract in front of his face wouldn't you agree ?
I mean you can surely see where the confusion between what he says about the band on one hand and fans such as us lot on the forum either read or hear in interviews. As you say "He has just fallen out of love with the Heavy Rock element of the band" this may well be true ? The use of the word hate being to strong, but to add statements like it was "Nostalgic" regarding the reunion tours, it's a bit of an insult to the other FF members and the fans of that era wouldn't you agree ?
It certailnly makes you wonder if he really has any fondness for that time. Can you imagine if he said that about CQ now that he thinks acoustic is the bands way forward and reversed the decision in the future ? I imagine that CQ fans would have the same feeling as the FF era fans vs CQ era fans would they not ?
Myself I can listen to all their output without prejudice even the acoustic, some of it I like some of it not to keen on but it all grows on you if you listen enough. Politics aside my main bug bear has been no new studio album since PPQ when I think the band are very capable and could easily have produce another similar album.
After all if likes of Saxon/Judas Priest/Motorhead(RIP Lemmy ) did why not Quo ? instead of releasing yet another compilation then the acoustic and now another acoustic. I think that many fans would have accepted the three last outings better if their was new material album along with this output. In my mind failing to capitalise on the reunion was a monumental management mistake for both FF and CQ, but like I have also said before all we give is opinions at the end of the day and those on the inside know what the truth is and not the observer as we fans are on the outside.....
Geoff.
I suppose, the biggest problem has been too many tours not enough time to do solo projects. Francis has been wanting to do another solo album for the past 3 years. He says he can do it next year but he also want's to retire. I think we would have had a FF album if there were not other things he also wanted to do. Which you cannot blame him for, also I think some issues happened on the 2014 FF tour. Alan was feeling his feet again and it frightened Francis off. Nostalgia wise I kind of get where Francis was coming from, the newest track in the set was 38 years old, while the oldest was 44. I too like all eras of the band. I get the acoustic albums are not to everyones taste. However I find them something ok for the occasional spin. The 70-81 albums are my favorite but being a younger fan I can appreciate the newer stuff. I have to say though Francis has this knack of writing songs that get in your head and you hum even if some of them are not as good as others. Hi All, LFH, Wow! you really know how to make a person feel old don't you ?............ What you said is so true matey...
Geoff.

It seems that he was happy enough to go along with it until "he fell over". And now that he's more or less out of Quo, he's quietly running them down. Stuff happens. This is part of the stuff that happens. "CQ" was rock enough for Rick, AQ isn't, even though he used to do that stuff when he was a lad. The point of this as I see it is that the guitar roles in AQ are just not very interesting, never mind not rocky. Rick will be around. It doesn't seem many years ago people were talking about his "rockin till the end", that is, until he keeled over on staghe. Rick's decided that wasn't what he wanted. I think the electrics will/would be back one day if Rick is still around, but "my heart misgives me", and some bod said in the middle ages. Er no pun intended. Anyway they still have to do that FF album ... It could be acoustic as far as I am concerned, as long as it is Quo.

Thing is in 84 Francis was ok with Rick and Alan carrying on without him he has said many times he was happy to go solo. If anyone is to blame it's the record company who demanded a Quo album with Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt was a optional extra. If the RC did not want to back the solo projects cause they saw more money via the Quo route then that's what was always going to happen. Remember how when Francis first met Rhino and Jeff, (Ricks descision). He was offhand with them as he did not want to do Quo anymore. Things happen. This is what happened, the history. Rick would have been happy to work with either of them, and went with the one that had the opportunities. And was very material in rebuilding the band, more than Francis was in fact.
