It seems that CQ have actually gone out of their way to be a karaoke tribute entertainment band in the public eye. They haven't only parodied and cheapened the Frantic Four original, but they have even parodied themselves by ignoring their own musical product and engaging in cheap corny gimmicks and slapstick comedy both on, and off, the stage. The management act more like holiday park administrators than rock band promoters. I know. Its remarkable. You simply can't make stuff like this up. Its as if they are actively pursuing the most embarrassing, gimmick laden, sad, bottom of the barrel gig. They will end up in old workers clubs - no doubt having come full circle. The really sad thing is that they simply do not have to do this...do they? They are literally killing Status Quo. They are one big joke. Hope they play this classic on the cruise!

I ask myself why I sorta defended CQ in the 80's when friends would say, they're a fucking joke, I'd go well, still good live'' though not great'' Turns out my friends were right....even if they didn't realise then, that QUO would end up as the biggest Joke ever!!

If the boat starts to sink, the band will play on.

No, seriously, it's in the contract! That's why they have bands on boats.

Next Project Is The Bygraves Tour.....All Together Now.....Sing Along With Quo...You Heard It Here First No, no, historical error, they were already singing alonga Quo when I joined up in 1982, and according to the achaeological evidence, eg Live 1977, they were already doing it in the 1970s. I hope nobody expects me to spell archealogical correctly at this hour in the morning.

Although the temptation is to make reference to creeks & paddles [or paradiddles for the drummer?], I don't think this is such a big deal really. A lot of artists do "rock cruises" of various kinds & I don't think it's quite like Vegas on water, but I could be well wide of the mark there.

I go away for a few days and come back to...what? Is there a Quo cruise? With them playing Aquostic? Surely this is not right.

Tell me about it...in the early eighties, I was still sorta defending them...but it was always sorta... and in the early eighties they were still good live, saw a couple of great gigs with Pete...by 86 I had more then enough of it and didn't see them again for a very long time... saw some gigs in 2008/2009 and got bored of them after 6 of them... little to do with the Quo I remembered anymore... thank goodness I saw the runion gig in hammy in 2014. That is the Quo I grew up with and that will always be favorite

You have probably had the steepest contrasting learning curve about Quo of anyone since you got to hear about Quo in the last year or two!

Thing is Rick has talked about them being on a cruise ship over 20 years ago. This is taken from the 1993 book Just for The Record. "We'll last through 1995 at least. We might even hit 2000. But if we do, We'll probably be on a cruise ship".

On board with the forces to promote a good rock album (and JSD as a tuneful single I think) is quite differently acceptable to cheesy cruise ship cabaret type entertainment.
The latter of which embraces the cheaper end of the gimmicks that CQ have increasingly insisted on embarking on. Francis speaks a lot time after time in interviews about being in showbiz, and he and his comrades being there as entertainers. In the process of so much emphasis on this, he has forgotten that actually he/they were rock musicians first and foremost (with just a splash of down to earth brash humour added to give him, and then, distinctive refreshing character)
However, they have gone so far down the slapstick road that they 'out Chas & Dave' Chas & Dave - who, irrespective of whether one likes them or not, at least do what is said on the tin. They therefore more credibly befit the knees-up brigade, than rock/pop band who have lost their way and are bowing out having forgotten where they originally came from. Not just the FF, but also self parody.
