Hi All, BFY was the first album I bought second hand at that but I had been listening to earlier albums around my mates house in the early 70's as he had quite a bit of pocket money more than me, he had all their albums so how do I score on that then ?
Geoff. Just think what date you got into them GEoff - and it's the album before that. Funny that we only have 4 people voting as getting into Quo after 1986. Thought we'd have more youngsters than that (ie people born after 1980). Hi All, Carl, That would like I said be early 70's at a push 72/73. As for the younger fan well there is two ways of looking at the younger Quo fan question, either there are not many younger fans on the forum or they just cannot be arsed to take part ? or they are just leaving all that analogue music to us old farts ......
Geoff.

Can't really remember as it was so long ago and I was only a kid. At what point do you actually become a fan anyway? I was aware of & liked Caroline, DD, RAOTW etc. but didn't get into them in a big way until WYP, so I ticked the JS box.

Born in '72, and actually first album bought for me was 12GB vol.1 in '80, had a few 7"s but we were a poor 70's clan! I remember as a kid lookin at the logo's on the back of the 12GB sleeve, totally oblivious to what they were referring to - little did I know back then! Then my Dad borrowed BFY & Live from a workmate around the same time and even as a kid of 7/8 I was hooked on mainly on FR's nasal vocals, the guitars, the profile that the 4 of them portrayed, - the line-up that defines the band this day in my eyes. (1st studio album JS btw - Xmas '80)

I first heard OTL all the way through which got me into them, but it was after BFY, so my vote is BFY.

So - it seems our elder statesperson got into Quo when MKGS was the new LP in the shops - would they like to stand up and reveal their identity, and tell us how they got into the mighty Quo? "elder statesperson".I know I am an old woman but I have never been called that before I had heard and liked POMM and IITS. but when my big bro brought in MKGS I fell in love with the sound of Quo. Mike,as Francis was known as back then, had such a unique voice and Rick...well what can I say? ..I was a young female and he was a sex god ! To me they were the main men and John and Alan added to the Quo sound I loved. I had been gong to concerts,as they were know back then, and had seen the likes of T.Rex . Deep purple Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones etc and first got to see Quo Live in Greens Playhouse ,later renamed The Apollo, in Glasgow in 1972. I went to see them every time they played in Glasgow and have continued to see them ever since. I was heartbroken when they broke up in 84 .It felt as if I had lost a big part of my life. ( but I was young!) I havent travelled far to see them but did go to Jersey and Guernsey where I met quite a few of the members of the old board. TMK.Dom, Ianski ,Rossis girl, Crappy.Etc and went to some of the food clubs where I met wondernurse, and Frames Dad Mr Quoand others ....too many to mention. I went to the Record launch party in London and met Steve Devious and Caroline ,and again many others I am not mourning the breakup this time .....I am a lot older and priorities change. I have had a fantastic journey with Quo through my life and everything must come to an end I saw aquostics and enjoyed it and will go again if they do another tour, the same with a Francis solo tour. I dont prefer one "version" of Quo over another. I just love Quo!!!

We are, of course, unworthy. As the now-established "Mother of the House", I think that entitles you to the power of Veto, or at least hushed murmurs of admiration whenever you post. I have one more question for you: " will this wind..." OK, you need to clarify the question....is it "will this wind" as in blow like a gale? or "will this wind" as in wind up some people on here..or something else?

I may be wrong, but I think gates is referring to the secret policeman's ball - end of the world sketch... 'Will this wind, be so mighty, as to lay low the mountains of the eauuuurth!' Gates, are you suggesting that teddy is a Quo fanatic akin to the sweater over the head wearing multitude?

Gates, are you suggesting that teddy is a Quo fanatic akin to the sweater over the head wearing multitude? I'm suggesting we show her the same deference that is given to Peter Cook in the sketch you mention. But yes, your alternative description is not bad! No I'm sure your explanation is fitting, after all it was you that quoted Rowan Atkinson

I see we have two BTB entries already - here is a question for you two. When you got into Quo BtB was out, so, when you first heard 1982, did it sound like Quo to you? (it sounded very odd and different to many of us older fans.) For me it's slightly different, although BTB was released I never heard it or 1982 until 1991. I got into Quo in 1985 through 12 Gold Bars Vol 1 & 2. Then bought ITAN, AC, a Pye compliation and RTYD. I did have copies of DOTH, BFY and NTL. However the tapes got damaged quickly and it was not until 1991 that I replaced them. I only bought the back cat in full until it was first released on CD. Because I bought ITAN and AC back in the 80s I loved those albums and while I can see the change in sound. It meant that to me 1982 and BTB did not sound all that different to those two. Note that PR is missing because I did not know that was out in 1989 however by the time I heard that album I had finally heard the FF era albums and I didn't really like that one. Funny thing is hearing all the FF albums I found Piledriver one of the least satisfying though I love it now. I also did not buy MKGS and DOTH for years as I had all the tracks on a pye compilation or I thought I did. I found my old tape of DOTH and while it would not play good at one point I put it on after buying the Vertigo albums. Someone had handwritten the tracklist on the tape and it went like this Umelitung, Nanana, In My Head, Mean Girl, Nanana, Gerdundula, Railroad, Nanana. So I played it again and while I wondered what In My Head was I quickly found out it's real name and I knew it from the Pye Compilation. However when Railroad ended I expected the Accoustic sounds of Nanana. Well of course that did not happen and I thought what is this track. Not heard this before and as the tape was good at that point I played that song again and again. So I realised my tape was wrong and I went out and bought DOTH on CD and Someones Learning became one of my favorite Quo songs. I should also add that as I heard RTYD before Hello I always prefered the version of 4500 times on RTYD to the Hello version. Same goes for Can't Give You More instead of the RAOTW version.
