Hi All, What about an online petition against all this bloody crap the fans are being fed.......? I know,I know before anybody jumps down my throat saying:- (If you don't want don't buy it) your absolutely correct But come on when I see other bands with members who are of a similar age group still with that eagerness to producing quality new material for their new albums ie: Cheap Trick (Who have more material in the pipeline following the 2016 new album)/Moteorehead(RIP Lemmy)/Judas Priest/Deep Purple/Saxon/Magnum/ZZ Top to name but a few. It does make you think that all the accusations and rumours of Francis and Mr Porter purely milking it now till the end for ££££££'s rather than producing the quality music I believe at least they could if they put their collective brains to it......
Having said the above someone clearly dropped the ball with the reunion gigs the money they could have made even with a few new FF tracks on EP or as I have mentioned on the forum in previous threads a Dbl Album of new material from FF & CQ, so on that score alone the money to be made hand over fist in this was well and truly squandered but who was to blame ?
I suppose that will go the way of the Roswell question......
Geoff.

Geoff. You answered your own question Geoff, the only way to stop it happening is not to buy it......and if enough people do buy it then there's obviously a market for it. And if there's a market for it, it will continue to be done.

And if there's a market for it, it will continue to be done. Hi All, IAC, Yes it's a conundrum of being a fan to but or not buy these days, I always think though is it being disloyal then the argument comes in but am I being ripped off that is why I have no interest in buying the 'Accept No Substitute' compilation and only the re-produced albums that were jus released and even they have now turned into another money spinner.
If Quo could produce another album in the style of PQP again (Like I am sure they can) I would be very happy, but I am getting a little frustrated with no new material releases. Like I said when other bands who are comparable in ages continue to produce fresh material and not just a mediocre release or because they need the money but a sincere attempt at bettering or producing an equivalent to their last album release at least.
Discounting the Bula film soundtrack album it is now five years more or less since QPQ and it was the last straw for me when the ANS compilation was announced, not only that but if memory serves me right there is another compilation still to come (Please correct if wrong).
I am sure that the Bula and Aquostic albums would have been better received by some if there was say FF or QC new material but this never occurred and is an error in my opinion. To just shove a compilation in the fans faces when what they really want is fresh material albums is a very poor lack of judgement and insult to the legions of fans.
If they are not going to record any fresh material ever again then the band should release a big statement about this and the oncoming disbandment after a whatever tour the fans deserve this at the very least.......
Geoff.

I find it interesting that one definition of a fan is that you buy everything that artist/entertain/creative puts out. I know I was like that as a teenager but not any more. I still think of myself as a fan though because I always check out what is going on with said artist etc. So for those you of who feel uncomfortable or disloyal not buying stuff, I say, don't be worried and be selective. Though with Quo you might have a long wait before something you want comes along.
I don't feel ripped off by Quo, merely disappointed that they offer me nothing I want.

Thank god I never kept to the rule of having to buy anything a band makes to be loyal ! If I don't like something a band makes i ain't spending money on it and I couldn't care less if someone calls me an "untrue " fan or something. I never bought Don't stop for example and I'm glad I never did !

Rip-off by definition can still extend to the principle behind a potential purchase and lack of value for money compared to the price, even if there is no intention to buy any product - whether that be a ticket for a gig, merchandise or whatever it may be.
So I don't feel ripped off by Quo in the true purchaser sense, because I am certainly not interested in buying any product that does not meet my wishes. However, I certainly do feel ripped off by the principle in play behind it, which to me, reflects the lack of care that the band and management have about sections of long standing fans who are clearly not impressed at all by their decision making.
I have to admit that I think feeling obliged out of loyalty to go to a crappy gig or buy some compilation which triplicates further your collection of RAOTW and SYBIL et al recordings is completely absurd.
I love collecting shoes, but I have no wish to have three pairs of exactly the same ones!

We all draw the line somewhere...
For me it was the "come on you reds single" - the first Quo or Quo related release I didn't buy
I was brought up not to like United!

Geoff Don't feel disloyal if you don't buy all Quo product! I passed that stage a long time ago. If a compilation comes out with something new on it (like XS All Areas) then I will choose to buy it. If there's nothing new on it (like Accept No Substitute) then I chose not to buy it. It's actually 5 years since QPQ, but lets not split hairs! And although it was the soundtrack, Bula Quo was actually a new album as well which was 3 years ago. I think there's at least 2 main issues (imo) with a band of Quo's age recording and releasing new albums. 1. It must be harder and harder to come up with good quality new material (after 30 albums) in the same (similar) style. 2. I don't think the profit margains are there anymore. If we think about how much it costs to record, manufacture, and market a new album? And compare this to how many (few) units a new Quo album will sell these days. I know it's released around the world, but in the UK it would only stay in the top 75 of the charts for 3 weeks! So if they're not going to make money, or much money for all that time an effort, that does start to put you off. So releasing another compilation album (generally put out every 5-7 years), is far cheaper and more cost effective than an original album (and no-one has to buy it if they don't want). I think the Record Company will go to Quo's management with the idea for a new compilation. The band could turn it down, but if it's going to earn them money for doing next to nothing, why would they? Who turns money down for doing nothing! It would be nice to have an announcement....but it's not going to happen (until they retire permanently). I don't think they know for certain whether or not they will do another studio album, so they're not going to announce something they're not sure about. Just sit back, relax, listen to what you already own, and when something new is put out there, choose whether or not you want to buy it. But most of all, don't feel you have to buy everything (you don't), and don't feel ripped off.

Alan had a lot of new material written,if they sat down together I'm sure something would come from the sessions. It's the only logical step for any new Quo material to write and record with John and Alan but rossi can't see it or is too stubborn and stupid to want it. Cheers

That sort of fannishness is a teenage thing, I think (Judging by my own experience, and really I only went after records and newspaper cuttings). Or for a serious collector, which is different. A true fan can have a bit of discrimination and buy what they think is good. I used to buy some recordings just to support the band, but I stopped that a long time ago and I never bought the toby jugs "Fan" is after all only a diminutive of "fanatic", you don't actually have to be religious about it ...
