Its a loss unless its Alan and John back for a few more gigs. Who cares about CQ...really, what is their mark on the music world??? I agree with you first sentence As for your question about the CQ mark on the music world.....entertaining countless people at gigs...into the millions, for 30 years!

My money is on them doing the long threatened Musical. Please remember I bagged the role of the 8-Armed Goddess Kali.

Whatever it is, it'll be trivialised bullshit from Porter. That's all he's capable of. He doesn't know how to promote the band properly.

I can't argue about Quo dismaying hardcore fans....but it does beg the question...how many dedicated fans did Quo have during the golden years? I think it's obvious that CQ have pleased..entertained...many many more people than they have gutted. Admittedly, the people they gutted were the ones that put them where they are

Many of the those gigs are the same people over the years. I actually doubt Quo have played to a million individuals as headliners. You only need to look at how attendances have dropped over the years. It is not obvious as you suggest. In 84 they played to far more people than they have in recent years. Arena gifts used to mean large audiences. Those days are much more inconsistent. Peope stopped going and buying the product. If people enjoyed it so much why have so many stopped going. They haven't had a hit single in decades. Album sales are now poor, they are if course for most bands.

Fair points, and I'm not arguing that the band are more popular now. tqorntq questioned the CQ mark on music. My point is that they have been a very successful festival band, often stealing the show, despite not being headliners and not being who punters paid to see. And to be fair to CQ, they go down well at any festival, be it hard rock, blues and jazz, pop or country. They've played just about every type of festival there is to play, and always go down well or very well. Who else could do that? And while I prefer FF by a country mile, I'm not sure the reunion FF set list could deliver what CQ can to such a diverse set of crowds. I posted what I did for a bit of balance. CQ get massively slagged here, but they have achieved a lot. Whether we like it or not, they have been a successful live act this last 30 years and have made a lot of money. They morphed from a band with a hugely partisan, dedicated audience, to one that could entertain any general crowd. They went from rock gods to entertainers. That has been the CQ mark on the music scene.

That has been the CQ mark on the music scene. Going from being a washed up psychedelic band into a no-nonsense boogie band that could attain numerous top five albums and sell out three nights at Wembley, three nights at the Birmingham NEC and four nights at Hammersmith on the same tour,is the sign of a band that made their mark on the music scene. CQ's mark is the undoing of everything that was achieved and going from being rock gods to entertainers is not progress. The word entertainers is basically interchangeable with cabaret. Given their dwindling audiences of the last ten years or so,they don't seem to attract the people that they supposedly wowed at these summer festivals to their own gigs.
