As non-committal as I'd expect. Although, certainly, a new album looks out of the question. A studio album at any rate.
As for gigs, I get the impression there will be a few more next year but that might be it. Just reading between the lines.
I thought his throwaway remark, "Andy will be nearly 80...." was quite a sobering thought. While we make demands of them.

Reinforcing what we all know, there's no money in albums anymore, so why bother. Are the days of 'classic' albums that transcend the decades over? Also, is Rhino drinking vodka from a jam jar?

Reinforcing what we all know, there's no money in albums anymore, so why bother. Are the days of 'classic' albums that transcend the decades over? Also, is Rhino drinking vodka from a jam jar? It's hard to tell about albums. The fact that there is no money in them except for the very privileged few (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and quite a few others that won Brit awards the other night that I, personally, have never even heard of) is discouraging many of, as Rhino put it, the 'heritage acts'. It does seem quite sad. But without backing from music companies and major marketing - which they are not going to do - the album is fast becoming a dodo. The problem with voicing the demise of the album is you're made to sound like some sort of dinosaur on the verge of extinction. Unfortunately, I suspect we are. There will be no more Dark Side of the Moon or Out of the Blue for future generations. Just the originals. Then again, there is only one Beethoven's 5th or Verdi's La Traviata. Things live on. And the album itself - the long playing record - has only really commanded any attention for about 60 years. It looks like it has a shelf life. And that shelf life mirrors us (i.e. people of a certain vintage) and our time on the planet. Very prophetic Vodka? Seems unlikely but it is a strange receptacle to be using

Well, glad I got to see them in Dublin in 2022 so! Looks like we're nearing the end of an era, with Francis happy to sit in his armchair with his slippers (and a pipe!) and play us a few tunes from yesteryear and reminisce about the old days. Sad in a way but really glad I got to see them over four decades, the musical backdrop of my life. Thanks for the memories.

Good chat to be fair! I think that's how it should be, just leaving it all open regards carrying on. He mentions the word fun and I would imagine if they physically can and they enjoy what they do, whether that's touring, recording or both, then, as long as demand from paying folk is there you carry on. I remember doing a drama exam thingy at school for "LAMDA" no less anyway we ended one of our performances with a "that's it" to the examiner and she said "never say that's it, just let it finish naturally", that's kind of how I view this kind of situation with an aging rock band, up to them, but I'd always leave the door open, just makes sense to. I'll stick up for Rhino on Rain, I don't mind it at all, think he has got better with it. He will only suit certain tracks obviously, but I've always thought a track like Don't Think It Matters would suit his voice and style fine. Oh we did pass our exam by the way, with Honours, highest you could get. Edit: I've just re-watched the Rossi interview from a year or so ago on Classic Album Review YouTube channel and right at the end, around 39mins mark, he says he'd probably like to do another album with both Quo and Hannah Rickard, but talks about same issues regards cost and whether it's worth it I guess. I'd welcome both to be honest. Edit#2 Just seen a new episode with Rossi has been uploaded on the early years release, does hint at the end that might be hard to keep Quo going.

But surely Rhino is contradicting himself, because if there's no money to be made in making albums these days, then why has he just made one.
I think it would be up to Francis if he feels there's more output left in the band, but not for money, but because he and they want to.

After Backbone, I certainly would welcome another album because I liked Leon's and Richie's songs...
