not entirely sure why but I think about him often. he just crops up every time I think of or listen to Quo - which is daily. I kind of smile to myself. Yup, Alan was great, Quo were great, great memories, great times. Thank you so much. Big part of my life, past and present. Not to be forgotten.

My dad just beat him, then. Made 73 then passed. It's funny thinking of your rock no roll heroes in comparison with your dad, but he was a decent sort, didn't care for pop and rock at all but would ask about things now and then in the spirit of curiosity, let me use his hi fi, and once helped me get Led Zep tickets in the spirit of kindness. Also an Aquarian (though not very good at fixing things). RIP both.

There's more left to the imagination with Alan. We didn't really get to know him in the same way as Rossi & Parfitt, the double act which was kind of thrust upon us as more of a marketing tool ultimately. Alan was more enigmatic and has maybe had his integrity preserved somewhat, as a result. So i still wonder about Alan, what his story really was. In his absence, how he sort of became the guardian of the real Quo, the one missing all these years - the missing link, i suppose. What could have been. All these things. But certainly not least, his wonderful bass playing always at the fore, in your face. The bass line of Mystery Song is a wonder. He was great even on the very first album back in '68 - definitely taking some inspiration from McCartney.

I have been affected more by Alan passing than I was by Rick. Maybe it's the realisation that the FF are now gone.
