Well, all I can say is that those reviews are absolute bull to me. I like the album a lot. It wasn't this album that was the "crime against music" (what a ridiculous statement anyway). It was Load and what came after that turned me completely off them ! I only enjoy their latest album after this one !

Heard a couple of songs and that was that for me. I saw the video for One and though "sicko's".

Not an album I ever owned but I understood it to be a classic. Enter Sandman is worth the entry money alone. But if you don't like any form of metal, you ain't going to like this. It would be like me reviewing an Ed Sheerin or a Calvin Harris album. No point. And is it just me or does that NME website look more like the visual mugging you get with something like the online Daily Express? Crime against music? The NME was always a crime against journalism

I've had many a discussion about Metallica with my stepdaughter who, to be fair, knows her metal - old and new. I've never really got into them to any great degree; a song or two here and there. And I usually point to the soloing as the principal reason. I just don't think they're up to scratch. But said stepdaughter says I miss the point because more modern metal (which has numerous new tentacles of course) is not about guitar solos. And I guess she's right. So, basically, she puts it down to age When I was younger, I was waiting on the guitar solo. In every track. When Ritchie Blackmore or Michael Schenker or Glenn Tipton kicked in, it was invariably the highlight of the song for me. So I imagine no one is waiting on anything now. Because there's nothing to wait for. OK, not the best explanation but I did try

Don't mind some Metallica, never got that interested with James Hetfield vocals, would be better with Lemmy's vocals. Saying that still like 'Die Die My Darling', 'Whiskey In The Jar' & the Motorhead classics they covered. Better than Justin Bieber!

Better than Justin Bieber! Hardly a fair comparison. Mrs Mortified's hair dryer is better than Justin Bieber

Everything before the black album was excellent or very good, too aggressive for some rock fans but for me always melodic until St Anger years later
The black album is a rock classic, no doubt. As with ACDC's back in black, the albums were never essential afterwards
Master of puppets, for me, is the best thrashy album by anyone. It's mature
The live album S&M (with full orchestra) is just stunning. Shows the musicianship, dramatic melodies and quality song writing of the band.
5 years of studio excellence built the fanbase that enabled another 30 years of good career. Not the first rock band to do that 😉😁

Avenged Sevenfold paid homage to this in recent years. Both songs are great tracks, but imo - Sad But True is heavier.

I've always loved Metallica. Heavily gotten into jamming along to their songs recently on guitar, and one of my favourites is Creeping Death. Killer for downstroking
