Maria carey is no1 even tho her snog came out in 1994. I cant get my head around that. its like restless been popular today. there are tonnes of christmas songs in the chart but not Quos but listen surly with a fan base as huge as the famous quo army it should be top 100 at least. Come to tink of it i havent herd it on the wireless.. that is madness. Theres copies on ebay. Here me out its not a lot to ask for but if we bought them and downloaded this week which counts for the xmas no1 we could sned it sky high above the dribble and get it played on radio one maybe get it better than no40 were it was cruely stopped before. Would you guys be up for that ?

To be honest I’ve done with all my QUO buying now apart from new material. I’m 59 now and have zero interest in ‘ It’s Xmas time ‘ making the singles chart. It’s not like it used to be when we had the likes of TOTP and people took notice etc... Trying to be positive for you it may have its day and chart one year. Just has to be picked up on some Yuletide Xmas Shop advert/ campaign and that would do the trick.

Nothing wrong with the sentiment but there's many reasons why it would be all but impossible... Ebay sales don't count towards the chart. Sales only make up a tiny proportion of the data used to compile the singles chart. Mostly it's streaming. You need millions of streams to get near the top of the charts at xmas. So you need to be at the top of pre-determined xmas playlists. Mariah Carey is not #1 because loads of people have bought loads of rediscovered 1994 stock, or even because lots of people have requested her song. It's because of the millions of people who know nothing about music and care even less, who say, "Alexa, play me some xmas music". And Mariah is right at the top of the algorithm to be "randomly" played more than any other xmas record. Sony have very deep pockets when it comes to "influencing" playlists. And for every $ that gets them there, they'll recoup it many times over in back catalogue sales.

Music to books to online betting to furniture and everything in between. Quo sold records. By the bucket load. They've had their moment in the sun - and it lasted a very long time. We should be proud. Reporting of record sales in the 70's and 80's in particular could, of course, be manipulated. And it was. But it was child's play compared to today. The charts are meaningless in terms of sales or streaming. But not in terms of income for the artist I imagine. So maybe some good comes out of it.

I dunno, perhaps it's something to do with All I Want For Christmas actually being a good festive tune?

You need millions of streams to get near the top of the charts at xmas. thats not strictly true. only if you are telling people only to stream do you need millions if Even that. ive looked into this, a stream doesnt count as a full sale its 150-1 so 1 person downloading a track has the same impact as 150 people streaming. ict is only 99p. i think there are enough quo fans out there who would download it to make the top 40 but odviously we need to download the same week.

I bought the single when it came out, and I do enjoy listening to it every year at Christmas. I'm not though about to pay for a download copy, even if it is only 99 pence, just in the hope that enough other people do so at the same time to get it in the top 40.
On a side note, I do think, It's Christmas Time, is pretty good, while I can't stomach more than five seconds of Mariah warbling away on her xmas tune.

Like most on here, I've already got the song. In various formats. I wouldn't purchase a download. There's no point. But if in the unlikely event they reissued it in another format, maybe even another version or mix, I'd certainly grab it. Quo is for life, not just for Christmas As for Mariah Carey, I actually used to think her Christmas song was OK. When it first came out. But not now. Not having heard it accidentally more than I've probably heard Rockin'. And that's saying something!

I think ‘ The Party ain’t over ‘ would make a great Xmas record with a few Christmas Bells n Whistles and whatever in it to make it appear festive. And a change of lyrics. It’s got a hookie memorable Chorus. Think it would do a lot better than ‘It’s Xmas time’

Slades 1973 #1 hit is currently # 17 in the charts ,I think that sometimes the quality of the song reflects in it's chart position...

Let me share this quote from a chart watch page: "While attention was understandably focussed on Mariah Carey’s 26-year climb to the top of the chart, another piece of chart history was made last week and it is one that will make many older chart-watchers weep. In order to celebrate the fact that, for the first time in a decade, their club rule the roost in Glasgow, Rangers fans were encouraged to download the rather wonderful Live It Up by Australian band Mental As Anything, a number three hit in 1987. Enough people rallied to the cause to send it to the top of the iTunes chart for most of the week and it duly went to number one in the sales-only chart last Friday (11 December). However, a lack of streams of the song meant that it finished some way short of even the lower reaches of the top 100 in the combined chart. It therefore becomes the first song to be the best seller of the week without entering the combined chart." In short - for the first time in history, the week's BIGGEST-SELLING single didn't even make the Top 100 of the singles chart. That is how much streaming has ruined the purity of the charts beyond redemption.
