Nothing wrong with the sentiment but there's many reasons why it would be all but impossible... Ebay sales don't count towards the chart. Sales only make up a tiny proportion of the data used to compile the singles chart. Mostly it's streaming. You need millions of streams to get near the top of the charts at xmas. So you need to be at the top of pre-determined xmas playlists. Mariah Carey is not #1 because loads of people have bought loads of rediscovered 1994 stock, or even because lots of people have requested her song. It's because of the millions of people who know nothing about music and care even less, who say, "Alexa, play me some xmas music". And Mariah is right at the top of the algorithm to be "randomly" played more than any other xmas record. Sony have very deep pockets when it comes to "influencing" playlists. And for every $ that gets them there, they'll recoup it many times over in back catalogue sales. Wow! Actual data! Thanks for that.

I think ‘ The Party ain’t over ‘ would make a great Xmas record with a few Christmas Bells n Whistles and whatever in it to make it appear festive. And a change of lyrics. It’s got a hookie memorable Chorus. Think it would do a lot better than ‘It’s Xmas time’ Acherly a Christmas version of that would be rather good ... with extra tinsel (decent tinsel, not like the junk the normally adorn their singles with these days) ... but they've missed the boat on that this year.

thats not strictly true. only if you are telling people only to stream do you need millions if Even that. ive looked into this, a stream doesnt count as a full sale its 150-1 so 1 person downloading a track has the same impact as 150 people streaming. ict is only 99p. i think there are enough quo fans out there who would download it to make the top 40 but odviously we need to download the same week. Let me share this quote from a chart watch page: "While attention was understandably focussed on Mariah Carey’s 26-year climb to the top of the chart, another piece of chart history was made last week and it is one that will make many older chart-watchers weep. In order to celebrate the fact that, for the first time in a decade, their club rule the roost in Glasgow, Rangers fans were encouraged to download the rather wonderful Live It Up by Australian band Mental As Anything, a number three hit in 1987. Enough people rallied to the cause to send it to the top of the iTunes chart for most of the week and it duly went to number one in the sales-only chart last Friday (11 December). However, a lack of streams of the song meant that it finished some way short of even the lower reaches of the top 100 in the combined chart. It therefore becomes the first song to be the best seller of the week without entering the combined chart." In short - for the first time in history, the week's BIGGEST-SELLING single didn't even make the Top 100 of the singles chart. That is how much streaming has ruined the purity of the charts beyond redemption. as far as I can see there wasnt a proper campain for the Ragers song and it only sold like 3.000 downloads, hardly anyting like the fans they have., ladbaby didnt need streaming to get to no1. Quo have enough fans and even the ict karaoke mix would count.

And while we're on the subject, can I just mention in passing that we beat that lot - AGAIN - to go 19 points clear Just thought I'd get that in. Reminds me of a Sunday night in early 1975. Rangers were top of the league, Quo were no.1 with Down Down and my mum had made macaroni cheese (my favourite) for tea. I remember saying to my dad " life doesn't get any better than this" A very fond memory that's stuck with me Ahem, anyway; back to the topic in hand Streaming has had a strange effect on the charts. The same way that airplay did in the not too distant past. Personally, I think streaming is a corruption of the indication of popularity - as was airplay of course. I will have sort of half liked a song in the past without actually buying it. Or listened to it just to see what it was like. Why should that count towards the chart? Because it just does, right? Pipe down, grandad etc, etc....

far as i know airplay doesnt count for the chart but streaming is basicly like radio most of the time you arent actually controling what is been played. and even if you are your not buying. yeah you have a suscription for a tenner wich would only get you 5 cd singles but you could stream a thousand singles so how is it fair?
artits must get nothing from streaming. what chance does rhino's Super Smashing Greet have in making a proper change. why did they get rid of singles anyway its a sham

The best way to go about getting Quo high up in the charts around Christmas time would be to release something that hasn't been released before.
Why not release Ricks vocal version of Too Close To The Ground as a 7" single...
Do something similar to what Princes estate did when they released his version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" on vinyl for the anniversary of his death. Pictured Disc, LTD Edition Coloured Vinyl and Standard Black Vinyl.

Who was the guy on the old board who was always trying to organise download campaigns. He set up a Facebook page to try to get Dirty Water to chart for Water Aid, among others.
Surely the best way to get Quo high in the album charts would be to build a time travelling Delorean, hit 88mph and set the clock to 1975 😉

I contacted a radio station during the Christmas period just gone, and requested they play Its Christmas Time by Status Quo.
And this station had been going over 10 years, and can you believe they never heard of It's Christmas Time??
Credit to them they downloaded it and played it, and commented afterwards what a great Christmas record it is, and couldn't understand how they never heard of it.
It does beg the question why it never gets proper exposure anymore.

I will say one thing he rallied the troops and impressed Rhino and management because one of the campaigns actually got Bad News to number 1 in the download charts, and it very nearly got into the official charts. Difficult to say whether that would work today. I'm not sure there's enough active fans on here compared to the original message board. But you never know.
