wtf? "Far Out Magazine is a leading publication within independent culture based in the UK. Far Out's audience is a passionate music fan with a keen eye for film, art and travel." Passionate music fans who've never heard of Rory?

Btw, over 50 years ago takes you back to the end of his time in Taste. Rory was only recording his debut solo album 50 years ago, this month in fact, at the start of a long & successful solo career - he still seemed to draw a crowd right up to his last gigs at the start of '95

Playing "La Bamba" year after year didn't do him any favours.

Today's the first time since he died that I forgot his anniversary. I used to try each year to get a Rory tune played on national Radio here - usually worked too!
I'll never forget the feeling around the time he died - broke my heart. We were on the west coast near a place called Lahinch [it's a Surfer's paradise/seaside small town in Co. Clare] on a break for a couple of days. Radio was playing all Rory that night and replaying some interviews with him. Not ashamed to say I broke down, I just couldn't handle it, looking out over the Atlantic to a beautiful summer sunset [next stop USA] I've only ever been as sad when my folks died. He was a complete gentleman and lived [almost solely] for the music. A National treasure. G

My earliest encounter was on a Polydor compilation called The Guitar album, the song was Bullfrog Blues a song with an incredible first solo. I mentioned this album to my mate Pete's elder brother, your mates older brothers were priceless commodoties when your music taste is changing when you're 11 ish. He said, from within a stange smelling fog that surrounded him, "If you like that, you'll fcuking love this". He was right. The album is Live At The Isle Of Wight and is some of his best work.

When I'm playing guitar and I'm jamming, I always think, "Rory wouldn't do that! Cop on!!"
The best IMO
